Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

One of the worst banks to work for

The Bank of America today is indeed one of the worst banks to work for. Toss aside the usual parameters of salary, benefits, job location, etc. and focus on the Culture, the Politics and the Poisonous backstabbing environment that will eventually make any sane person want to quit or move on. This bank is full of people and management that only look out for themselves and judge you by how you can serve Them and how you can fit into Their agenda. No matter what you've achieved or produced in the past, you are expendable and your "friends" will soon turn into your worst enemies, with or without cause. Management is on power and they want to stay in power. If that means blaming SVPs/VPs/AVPs and below for failures, even though it was their decision to hire and cultivate this team of people, so be it. And yes, once you reach your late 40's or early 50's the Bank has a systematic way of excuting its age discriminatory plan by firing people of this age range and replacing them with cheaper, younger employees. Do yourself a favor and stay away. The real BofA died in 1998 and the corpse was cold by 2003.

My dept is losing people to Wells like crazy. I have friends from other areas who left for Wells too. Was told the $$ offers and opportunities were "life changing". Senior leaders actually brought it up recently, " Don't go to Wells. It's short term money incentive." Well, I think it's the same no matter where you go so why not look out for yourself and make some money? I'm not happy with any prospects of advancing my career at BAC. Might as well start following my friends!

They have been recording the audio and full video of the screen for years in BofA call centers.

I worked in GT&O for over eight years. I was already looking for a job. Then that stupid Trifacta migration started. I had one of my techs from CA send me an email with five hard reasons why the migration would fail but deleted the email. The facts were all too damning. Then my boss quit. Then two of my reports moved into a new LOB. What made me finally leave was the last survey. They are fishing expositions to find the ones who are bucking the system. Very rarely do they use the comments to improve the working conditions. My advice: get out while you still have half you brain in your head.

far more sophisticated than decades ago, and not in call centers either. employee monitoring, surveillance, and intimidation are key points. slowly being rolled out bank-wide, so no one signed up for it. bait and switch for many.

Obviously the person who posted “ highly advanced employee surveillance tools and tactics” works in a call center.
Employers have been listening to call center calls for 30+ years and capturing screens for at least 20. None of that is “highly advanced employee surveillance tools and tactics”. That’s the job that you signed up for.

You mean you thought “your call may be recorded for quality assurance” was b—s—?

yeah, anything electronic. in call centers, for ex., they record all phone calls, & capture screen shots on your computer. audit team listens to the calls and analyzes your computer screen, then zings you if you make an honest mistake, docking your pay. big brother all the time. manager uses the recorded calls as leverage to intimidate you. so yeah, basically spying on employees under guise of regs.

Sorry! You do not get the distinction of worst bank! Wells Fargo is the worst and BAC a close second. I have worked for both, and Wells Fargo is awful and toxic. Would you rather for A$$holes or id–ts? BAC = A$$holes. Wells Fargo = id–ts.

Highly advanced employee surveillance tools? Tim foil hats are available in the gift shop. Badge swipe counts isn’t really highly advanced.

As a 30 year employee, completely agree with this summary. Although I would add that after its death, it came back to life as a horrid zombie in 2008. Run, run as fast as you can and if you are lucky enough to get laid off, never ever look back.

Seeing fellow coworkers throughout 2018-2019 get asked to rip up their homes and families to either move to a hub locations or be let go. Top performers leaving and replacing them with lower quality employees which mean things are run less efficiently with negative customer experience. We can do better.

Yes, many parts of the bank would meet the classical definition of a toxic work culture: narcissistic and arrogant leadership, rampant incompetence, low morale, cliques, gossip, political infighting, high tension, high pressure, high turnover, backstabbing, The bank is also starting to adapt highly advanced employee surveillance tools and tactics to create an invasive and intrusive work environment. Creepy. All of this is done under the guise of "regulatory" requirements where the real purpose is employee behavioral control and intimidation.
