Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

Most of the people can't afford new vehicles both salary and union, this is a fight to eliminate the middle class period.

Henry Ford wanted his employees to be able to afford his vehicles and have a balance with family and home, how is it in 2019 we have not progressed forward but only seem to be moving backwards? It's like we are stuck in this lazy mind set of not working together as a country that wants betterment for all, what we have is corrupt union leaders that are painting a very bad picture to the world and not doing what is right and just for the good workers that need the protection the UAWs leaders are to serve the workers needs not the other way around, same goes for the managers that are to run GM, they are to be responsible and provide good corporate stewardship not fleece the workers or the country, yes remain competitive but at what cost to the actual company? The way it's run could run into another bankruptcy, why is it GM can't learn, why the need to creat this stifling environment and pit workers against each other and the company? It's the culture and it will never change. Solution = full automation and use of robots to assemble vehicles, this won't happen in my lifetime but I'm sure automotive companies can make it work if they wanted too. All you will have is skilled trades performing maintenance, I believe BMW has allot more automation than actual assembly line workers.

Yeah, I can hear a manager saying to an employee "It's on you, so why didn't you fix all the problems caused by the bad decisions I made and ordered you to carry out"?

I agree with most of your comment about the demise of the Middle Class, however I disagree
with your time frame as to how long it will be before Artificial Intelligence renders
many Jobs obsolete ( blue and white Collar ). It's already here, by here I mean globally.

Autonomous, IOT UBI ( Universal Basic Income ) Smart Cities, Quantum Computing, Deep Mind, QRCodes ( cashless, The Shared Economy, The End of Private Ownership, Privatization of Water,
The End of Freedom of Movement ( Travel , whether by foot, to enter a Public Building, or to travel by Air, or Mass transit, or to Drive ) is going to be a privilege and not a right to be determined by our Social Credit Scores. Biometrics powered by 5G.

All of the above topics I've listed can be further researched. An excellent place to start in on YouTube. Copy and Paste this title ( below ) into YouTube Search

"One team", "it's on me," etc. Nothing changed. It was just a con to make employees think management was making things better.

I've seen "it's on me" to justify blame rolling downhill, so powerless employees were made scapegoats and managers never accepted any blame or responsibility.

  1. S. I'm all for the protection of the people, GM preaches constant safety in all shop areas, plants and the labs. I have went to numerous training classes when I worked for the company, I had many years at GM and at times I was proud to be there. We cannot turn on each other but do what is right and just for all. GM clearly demonstrated it's inhumane practice of mass firings last December and then in February, this will never build morale for anyone who has looked forward to joining the industry coming out of school but to avoid it at all costs, seems counter productive to me and defeatest. The glimpse I saw in the paper of the company not wanting to bow down to shareholders anymore ? Was that coming out of Mary's mouth? That's a good question! Is it more smoke in mirrors? Perhaps. I have been fortunate to work with so many good people at GM it over rides the bad people, unfortunately I am not around to ride out this storm and be apart of the industry I have a passion for, call me a gluten for punishment but I like a good fight and problem solving to a possible solution, GM always preached one team and open door policy, well that door is slammed shut and the team is divided, personally that door was never opened to begin with but dead bolted shut. If Mary was worth her words she would forgo her salary for one year and acknowledge to the public she will do so. You want to be world class put your money we're your mouth is or step aside for someone that will.
