Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

We need some new blood

The problem that hasn't been said is the bench is mostly empty and void of depth. Most of the people that are in senior management positions have been with the company forever. And those that are in upper middle management are former chiefs of staff to those people. There is no diversity of thought or experience. Those that disagree or challenge the status quo are shunned for promotions or leave the company in frustration or are shown the door via relocation or get paid to leave. Well run companies have common goals but give their executives and managers the resources and autonomy to achieve those goals. If they don't get the job done, they are gone and new blood is brought in. Does that happen at ATT?

At the end of the day do you really care? Seriously....We could have avoided majority of the issues we have today if the board had tossed Randy and Stank to the curb after the TMO merger failure. Now there are reports that Randy is looking to sell or spinoff DTV..Well no c-ap who in this company thought buying a dinosaur was a good idea in the game of cord cutting???? But hey lets double down by putting a man that knows nothing about media as the new COO!

I understand purchasing a content company like Warner Media but why did we need DTV? Only thing they have is NFL sunday ticket which most likely won't be the case in 2 years when contract runs out.

With JD's departure and the ascension of McElfresh and Mair its going to be the same old recycled garbage. Lots of buzz words with no real change.

In the end do your job and collect your paycheck. The company has told you they don't have an appetite to hear our opinions. BTW, also complete your non mandatory EMPOWER training because its going to make you a better leader!

The "Plano foundry" is all fluff and no substance. AT&T does not create anything of value on the marketplace. Everything is bought and we stick an AT&T label on it.

I remember one executive talking about how we take open source code and 'add our secret sauce'... What a bunch of BS!!!

The days of creating unique things that the marketplace craves are over. AT&T labs is not really what is pretends to be. They are simply taking open source and using it, just like hundreds of other companies.

You will never ever see a real home grown product again (think UNIX) with this executive team in place.

Perspective and opinion from the lowest position of Management, what upper management says or directs to the masses is completely different than what middle management is directed to do by the same people. Honesty and truth is rewarded with retribution and retaliation. Threats to employment security is the sword swung. Middle management does this out of fear of losing their jobs. Not a pretty situation. Most lower management will stay silent for fear of becoming a target when quarterly ranking is done of all management personnel under a general manager. AT&T grows sheep and lemmings and exterminates all that don’t drink the koolAid.

I disagree. They got a huge infusion of new blood through the EBM now Partner Exchange program at the Plano Foundry. Even though Partner Exchange is and has been a flop from day one, starting @ 7 years back, they went on a huge new hiring extravaganza of over privileged, highly educated mamas' boys (and girls) and fast tracked them through the LDP program. All the others are @$$ kissing Millennials packed with microaggression toward anyone with grey hair. Now, and for the last 4-5 years, practically all of them are a CEO/CFO/Pres/VP/AVP's and Exec Directors of nearly every major business of AT&T. Randall, the Johns, the Stank, Andy Geisse, all of them, routinely visited. You could shake their hands, sit down, and talk 1:1. It was a nursery, a breeding ground of sorts for Randy and the Gangs new lieutenants. That's how they did indeed get fresh new blood into the company and to its head. Plus, those not in a CEO, etc spot were hired under them in choice "special" positions. What they got, as the quality of "leader", not so much. As we can all see through one horrible and damning report after another on a near daily basis now.
