Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

RTM, An ASM, Specialist gone by October

Just talked to a market director in a different market than my own that is a good friend. Looks like RTM, an ASM or two depending on how many, and sales Specialist are gone by the end of Sept. Cabinet Specialist will stay in role as CSA-4 at the same pay , other Specialist will be given chance to apply for other jobs in the company until January 31.

Lowes will do anything to go 3rd party 100%.
These 3rd party folk dont get benefits, and also get a very weak salary.
Lowes doesnt care about customer service. Or long term success. They live in the now only,
ad exist top put out fires.

Corporates goal is to make ordering and service as easy as possible for very dumb employees who are just to be walking the aisles, engaging customers, and basically everything eventually will be so easy its just a matter of touch screen push and play. Any clown can order something but think about the sheer numbers of wrong product that will happen and the amount of returns and unhappy customers.

Ever order a SOS entry door? You have to have mad experience to even get the order right and even then 30% of the time or more the store refunds the door and eats it.

They can't do it until Apex is up and running. There's a post on connections in flooring. Read all about it. Basically outsource inside sales, like a psi across all categories but only for the paperwork. Our detail guy better find a different company to work for as he's first to go. Just like psi it will be billed as b—s— building sales type mumbo jumbo. The apex rep will do the detail.and sell the install in the customer's home. It's coming in a year or two so find a new job. Now.
This is an outside company, so basically just like janitorial service and assembly.
It's gonna be as big of a disaster as psi and getting rid of install offices. They're still working on the point of sale technology and creating instant estimates without central quoting, which funny enough the pse is also waiting on as well to use. He anticipates he will be outsourced as well.

"""I would hope they just move all specialty to a central area so a customer can order anything in that one place and leave the sales floor for customers taking stock product."""

why has working for lowes ,turned into russian roulette.ive been a specialist for 12 years in appliances,last month recieved an award for selling 1,000,000 + every year for the past 7 years,2 weeks later they call me in tell me im losing 15% of my pay next year,i fully believe i will also be cut before the fiscal year ends.yes i have lost all respect for lowes as a company.i dont blame any of the managers in my store,all of this c-ap is coming from corporate.if i lose my job i will survive,but some of my lowes friends and family will not.all i can say is shame on you Marvin Ellison the almighty dollar has turned you into a greedy POS.

I don't think specialist will be going anywhere they are focused on speciality sales it would make no since to do that home Depot still has specialist

The hourly pay of the Specialists may be an issue for corporate but if you look at how Lowe’s eliminates positions, the position is always brought back under a different name (likely to avoid lawsuits).

LP —-> “Asset Protection & Safety Manager”
Department Manager —-> “Department Supervisor”
ASMs —-> “Merchandising ASM” or
ASM Admin —-> ASM Operations, etc.

If Specialists are eliminated, at some point they position will return under a different name (again because HD has Specialists). The only way corporate can change the pay structure is to make it a “new” position.

Don't know what is going to happen.I do know HD specialist used to get hired in at $10.50 and that was raised to $12.00 last year. I have to think the $$ amount paid to Lowes specialist might be a target.

It’s always said Lowe’s follows the Home Depot model - we just happen to be several years behind.

When you look at the store structure of HD, not only do they have Specialists, they also have an ASM Specialty sales. What would be the point of Lowe’s eliminating Specialists? It’s not HD-like and we always follow the leader.

As for the elimination of an ASM, which one would be eliminated? HD still has Specialists and an ASM Specialty Sales, that wouldn’t be it. You can bet it won’t be Operations. HD also has that role and it’s too important to do away with (based on the responsibilities and departments that ASM oversees). It would have to be a Merchandising ASM that gets let go (if rumors are true). If that’s the case, the remaining Merchandising ASMs will have to take on the additional responsibility of overseeing those departments.

What I’m saying is, I’m not sure I buy the elimination of Specialists or an a ASM.

What bothers me about this change is that many ex dept managers went to specialist and now they will face a job elimination once again. Its not even like the company is losing money. They are just eliminating positions to squeeze every drop they can out of a store's income statement.

Part of this comes from various State's increased min wage. As min wage increases, job go away and entry level jobs become that much harder to get without prior exp.

My boss told me about RTM’s and ASM speciality going away 2 weeks ago. Didnt hear anything about the specialist though, but it would make sense with everything they are doing. This company is really going downhill. I have been with the company for over 5 years now and i am now looking for a new job. Everyone is overworked and stores are wayyy understaffed. People dont care anymore, as they should, because the company doesnt care about them. Cutting payroll and the whole HR “issue” with hiring is just a way to cut controllable expenses and make it appear the company is doing better and more profitable. I will be leaving the company soon and i suggest everyone else should leave too. Lets see how the company runs with all brand new employees.

I was told the specialists that are being let go will be told at the end of October before the specialist meeting. The store manager I hear made a couple of names get switched to get rid of a few who constantly call out/leave early because of "medical problems" and another who thinks he is better than he is and threatens to sue for baseless reasons. Hopefully the ones that get cut will be these useless dead wood types.

Just wait until Marvin introduces the funnel.....I mean the inverted pyramid as HD calls it. Cash goes into the very large hole at the top and ends in the bottom hole all the way to the CEO's pocket.

False rumor about specialist going away ?
Yea right. If that is the case, why are we yanking all the desks out where you could carry on with consultative sales? Why is when a detail sent in for a quote, now comes back filled in and only a “ clerk” can fill in the merchandise . Nice try you dynamic dimwits

This is a false rumor about the specialist only rtm will e go e at end of the year and they will be transitioned to the sales floor. The big focus is on speciality spotlight do not see the company getting rid of specialist that is the third quarter focus

If what you say is true, it only makes sense for the ASM Specialty Sales to go. If there will no longer be any Specialists or is Specialists will lose their titles and become CSA IVs, there will be no need for an ASM Specialty Sales.
