The UAW and 50,000 of its workers are striking against General Motors. Reasons include poor working conditions, poor pay, the use of temp workers, and job security.
Conditions at AT&T are just as bad, and even worse for certain 'appendix' groups (ie: wiretechs). Yet your CWA union did nothing. At all. They merely bent over for AT&T and asked "is this far enough?"
So, today GM stopped paying for healthcare for the striking employees and the UAW will have to pick up the tab for COBRA coverage for almost 50,000 employees. We’ll see how great the UAW is after funds start draining their bank account.
Correct me if I'm wrong, back during the auto bailout when GM was wanting their employees to pay for health care, didn't UAW step up and cover healthcare costs for their mem lolbers? Didn't remember of it was a temporary thing or just until their new at the time contract was resolved, but I do remember the story. That never seemed to be a plan for us.
UAW k–led the American car in the 80's with extremely poor quality (really c-appy sloppy who cares build), high labor costs etc... HOPE THEY DON"T DO IT AGAIN! Greedy UAW did not learn a lesson.
When I hired on my father asked to see my contract book. He was a 34 year UAW member. Next day he brought it by my place to drop it off and said “your in for a long loosing struggle. That’s not a contract. The company has so many holes they could drive trucks through all day and never violate the agreement.” He was right. CWA has been run by rookie wannabe union organizers or by thieves. Pick the one you think fits best.

UAW has always been transparent to its members while standing thier ground. They have fought extremely hard the last 2 contract to get rid of the two tier work force and it looks like they will be successful. Too bad contracts have been already ratified with no clear course for Prem Tech to become Wage Group 1s. Members need to vote next election and get rid of the current leadership.
“Poor Pay”. You must be some kind of an id–t. You do realize we all have access to this thing called the internet?? I mean, have you ever just looked at the UAW’s bargaining agreement with GM? Just look at the rates of pay for hourly wages. You think it’s normal to pay someone $85,000 /year to work on an assembly line?
