With the advent of GCAS et al down to WFE and the hands off approach to dispatching jobs, the entire dispatch center including the management staff could be removed from the payroll. Customer calls in, chats in, or creates their own ticket on line. Automation kicks in, tests, schedules and sends the ticket to the proper tech for resolution. An entire department and support staff should be eliminated for the sake of shareholders. Not a breathing soul in this department can justify the need to keep them.

Replacing managers with contractors would be great for me. Retire, then work for a contractor doing the same job.

Are we talking about service rep positions too or just techs?

Some functions you need to have someone to fall on the sword because they are not just company issues. Union would have a dim view of one tech writing up another one for a blatant safety issue. There is a concerted company effort to make the techs totally self sufficient. Only human interaction is with the customers or another tech.

We already are fully autonomous in some divisions in south Florida. My manager just runs around all day looking for safety violations. We otherwise manage our own workload. They are already eliminating managers and combining larger and larger areas under few managers

This should surprise no one..Less technicians : less managers from all levels. This is just common sense. If you are a manager and believe otherwise, you are delusional. I wouldn’t Be surprised if ATT made the field techs fully autonomous with full control of all orders from start to finish.. no more need for dispatchers, managers.
