Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Any plans for another voluntary offer going around for management (hopefully tech ops)?

Since the last voluntary offer, the corporate direction and job responsibilities are all spiraling out of control and I want out. Has anyone heard of a voluntary offer in the works or am I just dreaming? I'm in Tech Ops. Thanks

I've seen people on this ride before.

The severance options will dwindle, eventually there will no severance at all, just 60 days notice and a perp walk out the door.

Once a company becomes addicted to laying people off as a means of meeting the numbers, it becomes a death spiral because they won't recognize when they've gone too far to continue running, let alone growing the business.

Experience has taught me ANY time a company has multiple consecutive lay offs in any 2 year period the smart course of action is to take the next available opportunity to volunteer and failing that, get off your a– and find a job instead of waiting for your turn at the guillotine.

I will suggest the possibility that one last “surplus” is still in T’s hip pocket. About 6-7 years ago they got our attention with a one year buyout....and then that went away.

Eventually T prepped us for what to expect moving forward to 2020, a six month Severance was not what we wanted but what they were offering, and now that went away! But they now have our attention once again, outsourcing to IBM and perhaps other companies.

A think few more outsourcings are in the cards but eventually the room to outsource will close. When that happens we will be ready and eager to jump at whatever offer they give us, but I feel it won’t be six months anymore....they will get rid of us on the cheap!

They are done paying severance packages to non-union employees. Outsourcing or just making you so miserable you quit is the strategy now.

There is a rumor that there will be like a 5% surplus for tech ops in January.

Warning, if you show interest in volunteering and they don't allow you to go, you end up on the sh– list for as long as you remain (lower ratings, no advancement, less bonus money)

Unfortunately with this last move in pulling the rug from under so many people using the IBM deal, I think it will be their tool of choice. I pray I'm totally wrong. The IBM or other contracted out route allows them to not offer surplus packages or benefits. It allows them to hand you off to another company who can then dispose of you at any time. Its about as cheap and dishonorable as it gets to treat a group of employees who have been taking all kinds of training the past two years preparing for 2020. All of it for nothing...

Following this post. I missed the bus the first go round and don’t want to miss another volunteer opportunity.

I agree! They want you to quit. If you choose to stay you have to play by their rules : over worked, no life work balance, no trust work environment.

They are not going to pay you to leave. They will try making you miserable until you leave in your own.
