Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Keep blowing Sunshine up my *ss

Layoffs will help associates 'better serve customers'??? What associates? We're down to 40% of the
staff we had 2 years ago. Short term stock bump, long term customer disloyalty as they are not
happy. The typical press release. If Lowes corporate and the media really wanted the truth, they
would talk to the average, daily customer. They've only dehumanized us and that effect has
as well been adopted by our loyal customers.

The other day I was running around covering customer service, returns, the pickup desk and answering phones and one of the customers in line asked if there was someone coming to help me. "Sorry, ma'am, I'm on my own at the moment."

She later said that she hoped I was paid a lot for the work I was doing. I wanted to tell her that at this point I dont care anymore.

Customers ask me why the store is so shorthanded. I've started telling them the truth: the company's cheap, too cheap to schedual people to staff the store properly. Management has said the layoffs will free up payroll for more sales floor coverage, but I know that's a load of abs. Corporate's gonna pocket that money.

I never thought I'd miss Niblock, but then again I never thought we'd end up with Carv'n Marvin. The worst part? I'm an unskilled man in a place with lousy prospects. As awful as it gets, I need this place more than they need me.

The only good thing that comes of this is that the longer customers have to wait no matter how good the service is they will eventually go to somewhere else to shop and then we will have plenty of time to do the work list! Contractors in my store know better than to come early or to late in the day.Want help ? 10 am to 4 pm only time we have staff

Lowe's' payroll used to be far higher than other retailers for the simple fact that critical duties in the facility were worked by Lowe's associates and on the payroll, not by outside contractors who are not on Lowe's' payroll. It was because we had a sense of FAMILY that we promoted and fostered years ago that Lowe's' payroll was so high. The outside contractors being brought in are not family and the entire family atmosphere at Lowe's has been eliminated. These outside contractors are still a considerable expense to Lowe's but nowhere near as much as family. And how associates were dismissed and being dismissed is pure evil.

What we are seeing is the “Walmart-ing” Lowe’s—get rid of all, high-paid, non-selling positions and transitioning to low paid, predominantly part -time positions.

What was Marvelous Marvin's fancy tag-line?? "You're either serving a customer or you are serving those who are serving a customer." That was either a flat-out lie or the most misrepresented statement ever spoken so ever forcefully.

You numbers are flat out wrong. Lowe’s payroll is far higher than other large retailers. Just the honest truth. We have been running with far too much payroll and as we have reduced payroll our customer service metrics have increased because we are eliminating positions that are non customer facing. Truth is tough but it’s the truth.
