SMTS vs DMTS vs Principal vs PMTS - what's the salary difference?

Any idea folks - all are same band? Also would PMTS gradually be converted to something else?

Everything in Verizon seems to be a percentage of your previous pay in the company. Occasionally someone will get an equity adjustment, but rule of thumb used to be in-band promotion=5% and to a new band was 10%. If you were moving from hourly to salary you could get and extra 3-5%. It seems like HR is more of 3-5% in band, and 6-8% out of band.

When I was managing, someone had transferred to my team from the midwest, and they gave him a 13% raise when he moved to NJ. He had been in Tech Support for 6 years prior. He was making 39k. Meanwhile we were hiring new people off the streets in NJ for around 50k, with no loyalty or history.

Region will also be a large factor.

@10ihyTqA-vgz Principal is a non-IT role that is on par with PMTS, Distinguished Engr would be a technology role that pays as high as DMTS

Those are all silly A$$ titles where you categorize your besties to the title that pays out the most bonus. The MTS IV could be delivering more than the DMTS but the DMTS was most probably hired with the director at the same time and they hang out together outside work and in closed door sessions at work.

The manager will steal $$$$ from other people buckets and assign more $$$ to his DMTSs and PMTSs

Its a tool for managers to bring favoritism into the game of actual $$$ payout.

The range is really high if you attend the same Mosque, Church, or the Temple with your reporting director.

Geographic pay areas also have an influence on the market ranges. You could have DMTS/PMTS in a lower paid geo area with ranges that are lower than an SMTS range in a higher paid geo area even though they are higher titles. The ranges are not based on title. They are based on jobcodes and geographic areas. There are tons of jobcodes within each title.

They are all 6V titles and SMTS, PMTS, and DMTS have existed for a few decades and not changing. These are all technical positions and have their own salary grades. PMTS is assigned to those outside of IT but in technology. SMTS is basically the same as SMTS but assigned in the IT world. DMTS and Principal are assigned on both sides and pay the highest.
