Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

2020 Desperation

Remember the hype to ready yourself for 2020 by pivoting your training, learning Agile etc? Got your nanodegree? Now it’s eerily quiet on that front. Do you think there will be a management voluntary offer or is that over with as some have said? If you are over 50 miles from a collaboration zone or satellite zone, is that pretty much a surplus sentence ?

@zgw, I think that, and hope that, you are 100% correct on your feedback. If a MVO is offered, and OI could care less about how many months sev, but any sev, I'd jump out and perm retire for ever more. And also dump all AT&T services, and buy up the cheaper better services of the competition

Sounds like all those groups that used agile went to IBM and Tech Mehindra. So in a sense I guess those companies got employees who were already trained so they both saved some training bucks lol.

In ATO those falling into this category are being given until next Sept to start reporting to that location...though this is not the case for every VP org under MK. Some VP's under MK are allowing their folks to stay in whatever office they currently work in (JL for instance). Some VP's are forcing people into the largest office in their area (not necessarily a collaboration zone), even if no one in their group works in said larger office (RW for instance). It is type of inconsistency from leadership in the same group that makes people nuts.

Thinking non outsourced projects face funding reductions in 2020 equates to headcount reductions 4Q through voluntary then forced

The short answer is yes. Just after the IBM outsourcing I put out an ‘opinion’ on any future MVO’s from T. They will outsource who they can to the companies they can...IBM, Mahindra and perhaps a few other players, until they run out of space to put all they can, and how long that plays out is a guessing game....T likes to play the Christmas Grinch, but maybe a real present is on the horizon, I make no guarantees, just a thought.

But if there ever was a way to gather our attention, T has succeeded. And everyone on this board, who has the slightest hope of a Surplus Pkg (no matter if it’s three or six months) will jump at the opportunity when, or if, it’s presented. Those closer to retirement won’t think twice, they’re going before you can blink an eye!

Employees would perceive it as perhaps the last best chance to “take the money and run.”
