Instead of firing John Stankey, they promoted his incompetence! what a shame. He ruined the company. He was behind the disastrous acquisition of DTV that is sinking AT&T.

John stankey does not seize opportunities for the company's benefit, only his own. How he is still employed is beyond me. Try losing your company billions of dollars of revenue and see how fast your picking gravel out of your ar-e from being thrown out the door!!! Stankey continues on with reckless impunity. Maybe the BOD and the stockholders are the real id--ts here....get rid of this clown!!!!
AT&T executives continue to get promoted as debt continues to increase while the stock price continues to flounder. The board of directors on down are all very disappointing.
McElfresh, Mair, Stankey promotions. Donovan leaving with a Golden Parachute: phew, for a minute there, I thought the year of the middle-aged white dude was nearing extinction.
DTV was a solid product and company until purchased by T. AT&T really came in and sh– it all up!

Well deserved award for knowing more about TV than Time Warner executives and at the same time staying so humble.
2oep: Also don't forget that Randy's epic failure of chasing T-Mo actually put money ($Billions) DIRECTLY into T-Mo's balance sheet, incl. actual cash from the contractual bitter pill PLUS the spectrum, which has risen in value dramatically since the failed acquisition. This also doesn't count the lost revenue's from customers that the (now enabled and better capitalized T-Mo) have been able to competitively lure away from AT&T. That alone should have cost Randy his job.
The whole happy top tier of Stanley and Randall! Yeah make that kind of a mistake and you will be kicked out immediately in the low rungs of the company. Here, DTV, T Mobil and Time Warner- 3 horrific mistakes that are now requiring the rest of us to pay back the debt. What a shame!!

Stanley will meet the numbers one way or another whether debt or 2020 force allocations. Now what happens after those numbers are met is another story.
Stankey has been in this position before. He has always been the named successor to Stephenson. He apparently has been very successful in the eyes of his boss and the corp board, since they gave him that big bonus last year. And most of you at the bottom will never see his actions.
Well said. That guy has destroyed everything in his path with his arrogance and incompetence. Between him getting promoted and McElfresh, I can say that leaving AT&T last year was the best decision of my life to this point. What a joke!!!
It's the old "I can't fire him, I hired him". Promote incompetence.
I worked years ago at another firm and this woman went from consultant doing data entry to Sr. Vice President and destroyed everything in her path.
I had a manager some 20 years ago at AT&T who often hired incompetent people. When someone asked him why he did it, he actually said "I look better by comparison and they won't threaten MY job". There's still much of that mentality around in the old boys network.

Just another boardroom chess move. With JD gone, this is Stankey’s last stop. Randy won’t give up his seat anytime soon. Others don’t have enough balls to make big waves.
Further consolidation will be coming down the food chain to reduce people and cost. There will be more Stankey videos out, may be a submission to the day time Emmys, I’ll leave the award to your imagination.
It feels more of an exile than a promotion. I give him 6 months before he suddenly “ retires” as well...
Warner Media has more control over the TV stuff now and they created the COO position to get him and his coked up ego away from ruining anymore entertainment plans. He gets his own little sandbox to throw tantrums in until he gets tired and takes his toys and goes home (gets tired of Randall and gets the hint he ain't wanted) Hollywood wasn't about to put up with his sh– and they got the message.
The dumb ones always promote in this company.

Promoted? I think he's on thin ice. Dual roles at his level means a transition from WarnerMedia to COO, which is a new position for ATT (hint) and his office is probably located closer to the door. Lets see what it looks like in 12 months or less.
