So far, the only thing that seems certain is that layoffs will happen sometime in September. When exactly, how many people, which areas will be hit the most...all of that is one big unknown.
Frankly, I think I'd be happier knowing if I'm getting laid off today - whatever the news be - than have to wait and stress for who knows how many days. The wait is the worst...

I was so relieved after I got axed in 2016. Almost 2 years of basically nothing to really do and stressing over it. I never tried to go back. Pretty much any place that is involved with oilfield manufacturing is a temporary job. Nothing but a stepping stone to get a person on to their next job.

They are waiting until after the first of the month because deep down they do have a heart and they want you to be able to have health care for 30 days. They will never tell ahead of time because there would be a max evacuation of employees so you won’t know until you’re number is pulled.
Baker Hughes on Friday reported that the number of active U.S. rigs drilling for oil declined by 12 to 742 this week.
That followed last week's drop of 16 oil rigs, which was the biggest weekly decline since late April.
The total active U.S. rig count, meanwhile, also fell by 12 to 904, according to Baker Hughes.
October West Texas Intermediate crude continued to trade lower, down $1.48, or 2.6%, at $55.23 a barrel.
It was trading around that same level before the rig data.
From what I have heard, expect about 10% of the company to be let go across all PSLs.
