When Enron finally exposed itself as a fraud it was too late for the most ethical and revered accounting firm to stand for more than an enabler and apologist. When good core value companies
become entwined with poor principles and greed driven decisions the public good is lost.
Lowe's was that bell weather of ethics and principles, the company was passionate about being honest with its customers and its employees, doing the right thing while their competition steam rolled
every rule of decent commerce, the straight shooter.
When big box a la Artie and Bernie grabbed headlines and Wall Street dollars (Ken Langone) pushed
all retail (Price Costco in California) to feverish market grab, Lowe's was already quietly building large stores. They refused to give in to the "every corner" mentality until Home Depot had them by the throat! Funny how that same actor is now finally plunging the dagger into this once great retailer.
It was never about beating HD it was always refusing to be like them......but time has eroded the bedrock . Now being like them is the only option.... poor Andersen enjoyed a similar fate.
