Thread regarding Wellcare Health Plans Inc. layoffs

Centene / Wellcare

Creating this thread to capture comments about the acquisition of Wellcare by Centene.

Wellcare appears to be taking actions already that are related to direction from Centene with staffing changes, layoffs/RIFs, etcetera.

Anyone know what’s up with the review cycle? HR has been very, very quiet.

Are the layoffs occurring at SS WellCare level or in the markets?

Synergy discussions are happening today and tomorrow. Some might happen a bit later. Many are hearing today that their position was eliminated.

So very quiet, and a lot of whispers about ‘Wednesday’ - so thinking earlier comment sounds about right relating to finding out our status on or before Wednesday.🤞🏻

RE: Mandating some positions relocate to HQ within specific time frame.
That was very predictable. However, are these relocation's being funded by the company? Guess is they are not...

Why would you say a business analyst lay-off is highly likely? What about for someone who accepted a position on Friday after the buyout was completed?

The IT piece is a bit of a white lie. They do need people at the moment - but not long term. They’ve already worked with architecture to decide which apps will stay and which will go. There are some already targeted but they won’t find out until later this week or next. They will NEVER tell you anything but what you want to hear.

Leaders in IT indicating that no changes for next couple of years. Not sure if there is plan to cleanup or not. Majorit IT people at tampa including contractors not worried about job, more worried on WFH and jeans. So far business as usual. hope higher management identified and start cleanup so much junk we have at middle management level at this place.

Centene leaders will be onsite all next week for various town hall meetings. Next week, likely on or before Wednesday, everyone will have had a meeting to learn their new spot in the org (here, there, or possibly out). Everyone gets an individual meeting and will hear specific talking points tailored to your situation.

Layoffs will occur in quarterly waves throughout 2020.

Centene leaders will be onsite almost all of next week. Mind the FAQs and new dress code.

They’re a little behind schedule with announcing org changes for day one.

Please try to help those that get let go. Most will have only 30 days to find a new position before a severance payment kicks in.

STI bonuses are being paid out on 1/28. Are retention bonuses also being paid or did you confuse the two?

Looks like the close is official and you’ll get some sort of Centene gear tomorrow.

Day#1 RIFs are already identified and they will likely hear this news over the next few days. Sr Dir and above already know who’s on that list but will blame Centene.

The rest will be a slow burn - meaning identified but not finalized. That’s coming.

Wish All of you the best of luck over the next few weeks.

I think a few of the somewhat higher ups in IT are assuming they get to stay, saw some fairly pricey new cars in WIT. Also seen a few new faces going through the field of cubicles, and it feels like they’re looking to see who to pick off.

Deal will close on or around by 1/23. If you see boxes laying around your area they contain Centene marketing//welcome packets.

What are people’s thoughts on accepting a position at WellCare? Would a new hire be safe? Or is it too risky at the moment?

Anyone have an update on the divestiture to Anthem, I heard State of Nebraska is making some high demands which could delay the closing?

Do we still think the closing will be 1/17 or 1/21?

Any idea how many and which department(appdev ,infra, reporting etc)? If its couple of people they did that in december also probably some budget cuts for specific department to get ready for day 1,the real stuff might not started yet.

Multiple time-frame specific org charts are in place. Read: The org and your continued employment can change at any point after day #1. You may be safe on day #1, but who knows at say #30.

Merit increases won’t be paid out when bonuses are. Maybe Feb/March. Read: Why pay people a higher salary if you already know you’ll
be letting them go.

Seems like that ELT decisions are made. ELTs for PHS, Compliance, Quality and IT are out. Legal stays for a bit due to the merger legalities. They’ll be offered other positions but will likely have to move if they want to stay. Finance and CEO stay for up to 2 years. ELT for Operations and Markets will stay.

As our CEO keeps repeating , keep your resume updated and continue to do the best work possible. Reading between the lines is pretty easy. We’ve lost our CFO, multiple VPs, 84 employees let go from November to December 1st, no one is safe in my opinion. Out of our control so keeping my resume updated and riding this out until results are in. Wishing us all WellCare and Centene employees the best- it’s all we can do for each other at this point.
