Thread regarding Wellcare Health Plans Inc. layoffs

Centene / Wellcare

Creating this thread to capture comments about the acquisition of Wellcare by Centene.

Wellcare appears to be taking actions already that are related to direction from Centene with staffing changes, layoffs/RIFs, etcetera.

Anyone know what’s up with the review cycle? HR has been very, very quiet.

Previous poster, I was also laid off.
Then I have countless places calling me, about the same Centene and WC jobs!
The rich get richer, they don't care about the employees, just all the 'lives they will insure'.
And the release they want you to sign, so you don't sue? That is a lawsuit waiting to happen.
Hang in there, bud.

Previous poster please also know that you are not alone either, and please don't despair. To them we are just expendable numbers, but we are actually people with friends, family, and children, and we all just have to stay strong and know we will all make it through this no matter what happens. I know it is hard, but please know this setback it just temporary. I have never met you, but i am sure you have more integrity and kindness than these corporate sobs, and just try to remember that. We will all make it through this. Peace and compassion to you.

I was let go and have been struggling with significant depression since then. It’s like being inside a thick fog and I can’t escape.

It was bad enough waiting and wondering all last year. But now I’m trying to figure out how to feed my kids and keep a roof over their head. It’s getting harder and harder to find hope.

Not looking for sympathy. I just wanted others in similar situations to know that they are not alone.

I also wanted to masks sure the human side of this situation is out there. Everyone is walking around with their collective chins up but they are often dying inside.

More associates learned that they are being laid off today. The new org seems to be getting smarter about how to keep this info quiet.

Thanks , yes that’s been my experience with the so called help , they even give you an email to Centene recruiting and they are supposed to call you within 2 days ... it’s been over a week and I haven’t receive a response or a call. It’s very unorganized at the moment.

No luck yet with that event code. I was told they they’re operating from two different HR systems and currently following two sets of policies. HR is largely confused and it has been hard to get their attention. Maybe use one of those concierge centers that are open all week?

In the lay-off package they claim they want to help place you in other positions & they give you an event code to apply. Has anyone had any luck with that ?

I dont think work from home is on anyone's mind as jobs are at jeopardy for next few months. Hope some discipline will come around IT with this merger as it is corrupted with systemic management abuse and favoritism.

Not sure wfh policy in IT is true. Sonmany people here do wfh and many do complete remote including contractors. Even if they get rid of complete remote policy and mandating people to report to some near by office that will have more impact let alone simple wfh.
I guess our IT is more generous in providing complete remote with their own timings of work even for cotnractors while fte people coming to office need to makesure have full coverage and available on call all the time.

To the business analyst that was let go a few comments below, what market were you in? They still have BA positions posted in some areas...

These posters are correct, Centene does not let you work from home.

Centene IT was hit heavy in Nov 2019, over 100 were laid off. Many levels, all good workers.

I was a business analyst let go, on a team with a ton of work. But according to management 'we have tons of openings, bring in your friends'. Guess MFN has to pay for his private jet and all the WellCare bigwigs!
Meanwhile, people that under-perform and should be let go, are kept.
Also contractors are kept.

Apartment reporting changes at dir and above no updates in IT. Very calm and business as usual type. Middle management saying no impact(including contractors) for now as integration takes time.

I guess the rhetoric from Niedorf and Burdick was just bulls**t. Plenty of openings and plenty of work they said repeatedly. Such lies. There are contract staff still working while FTEs are shown the door.

People are being cut before they even know what they were cut from. They didn’t even have a chance to even meet anyone from Centene - they we’re just cut off from the mainline and basically told to fend for themselves in a new org where they know nobody and can’t network because they’ve been pushed aside. And btw - a big middle finger to the WellCare leaders that have let that happen.

If you are 40 years old or older you can ask Hr for a list of titles, ages, and gender if those laid off in your group. It’s a federal law protecting older workers. Maybe there is a pattern being followed.

Severance varies quite a bit. Things like your title, time with the company and office location affect it.

You may not get any if you were hourly. For most worker bee’s you’ll get a week for every full year of employment but it has a maximum. That that led teams usually get a month and then a little more based on their time. Don’t expect that everyone gets the same.

Marketing in Shared Services took a substantial hit with both of the leaders gone. Total of 12 people. Now being called Consumer Experience.

Additional layoff notifications were done today. Leadership in Ops. Still some circulating throughout IT. Probably my close to 200 people all in right now. One group took a 25% day 1 hit.

Is there a group people should join if they’re let go? Any recommendations for a labor attorney to review release agreements?

It was announced today that most of accounting is safe. They don't expect to fully integrate our accounting with theirs for at least 18 months.

in response to earlier comment about 60 days, its common during this type of layoffs. They did same during QA outsourcing time as they need time to go through the transition and also warn act may provide some benefits to employees related to advanced notices.

Layoffs in administrative departments have still been coming today. Communication from leadership has been almost non-existent and still lack details about the previously announced town hall for Thursday.

60 days?? That’s a lot of time...more than usual I think. Seems like they may be holding onto those let go for a longer time “just in case” others leave after bonus/org changes and they need to use those folks to backfill positions. This probably gives them more time to offer you another position

Job eliminations are confirmed. Most have about 60 days to find something else internal. Severance, if any, varies. Decisions were made based on perceived performance (not necessarily related to your review) first and if that was not an issue then is was a pure redundancy play where they could get more out of those that would remain. All are communicated as decisions from PWC so as to not blame Centene or WellCare leadership. However it was Centene and Wellcare leadership that told PWC what to do.

I heard 6 Poject Managers were given notices yesterday to find another position by March or you out. These PMs have been with wellcare for a long time and tend to have high salaries. Newbies and contractors were not affected!!

Hope Burdick and Asher are sleeping well while there old faithful are picking up the pieces and moving on. Your millions in your personal account tell the truth of who benefited. The poor and old in our country will suffer along with thousand of faithful hard workers from WellCare will enter the food stamp and poverty lines while you sit back and back in your narcissistic millions. SHAME on you and Drew. As for Centene leaders your attempt is nothing but a sham and time will be the judge as you have selfishly taken from those in need. I’m still employed but not feeling good about it. My days are numbered and I will leave on my own and document the greediness Feels a bit like the FBI raid all over again.

ePMO and IMO layoffs today. Also some big management changes, at least at Director levels. I feel like communication has been horrible from ELT. Some teams still haven’t heard a word about who their manager will be, myself included.
