All these news stories reporting on the IBM deal, but not a single one of them mentions the outsourcing of over 9k employees to IBM as part of the deal. The IBM deal seems to have been eclipsed in the news cycle by the announcement of the surprise MIcrosoft deal. Most kindly, this is the only site I've seen explicit mention of the outsourcing at all.

The number is said to be around 800 or so, last i heard. May be more but it is NOT 9000 nor 15000 as is being mentioned above.
I know exactly which organizations - can't say - but NOTHING LIKE the reports - this is Enterprise Cloud moving, not every single network jockey in the company!

The average person probably doesn’t know anything about it and doesn’t care if they happened to hear about it. I sincerely doubt if many people get email alerts when T is mentioned on the Net.
T is the media. Now more than ever. T knows what it legally has to say and will say no more.
Hearing definitely more outsourcing for those left behind as this was the first wave....
I wonder how many billions of dollars IBM will give to ATT this year as part of this deal so they can pay down more debt. Looking forward to hearing how many subscribers left this quarter. Heard earlier today that Netflix lost about 120k subscribers – that is not a good sign for T if that trend continues.
: @106xlqoL-lqg You do realize there is hiring going on and has been for awhile in some areas. That was part of the announcement. More backpacks being carried around than I have ever seen before. Toss in situations like the retail stores with their turnover. What news agency is going to drill down to the micro numbers? Number discrepancies, pay discrepancies, etc. I would guess that every person in the PR department has a standard answer sitting on their desk, if they happened to get a phone call, that has been vetted. Will probably quote the million line losses yearly we have been seeing. This is not their first rodeo.
Really wish somehow their despicable way of treating people could get coverage. If there is anything that could slow it down, it would be bad publicity and negative company attention.
I'm glad to see someone reached out to the media. They aren't going to cover the story if someone doesn't do it since AT&T won't be releasing any details of the outsourcing part of it. Many newspapers have anonymous submission (aka NY Times, Dallas Morning News, etc). Had I gotten such a letter, I would have sent it to the press–especially given AT&T's previous stance saying they would be hiring on account of the tax cuts.
Yes I agree with the other poster that they might not care to cover it, but it's a given they won't if they don't get notified.

T and IBM - it feels like two B-list celebrities announcing an engagement in the hopes of becoming an A-lister
Today Summers has ~10k in his org. Of those ~4.6k are employees. Ostapower has ~5.7k in her org. Of those ~ 3.7k are employees. Together (Tech Dev) that is ~ 8.3k employees.
T set the stage when they announced the downsizing initially. The general public and investment community really don’t care how it is accomplished at this point. Do you really believe that we will see marching in the streets because employees are being transferred to another company at the same salary? Or a news agency following that story for a year to see how those employees are affected after 12 months? Just because it is personal to us doesn’t mean that the country is going to march on Washington?
I posed that question yesterday to some of the media outlets that covered the story, and one replied they would check that out.
Microsoft doesn't do that kind of consulting/engagement, but i surely believe the shall be additional outsourcing.
And with yesterday's announcement of an alliance with Microsoft, I get the impression that more TechDev outsourcing will go to Microsoft, so we haven't seen the end of it yet. 9K outsourced to IBM, but there are 15K in Techdev.
