This is a technology in search of problems that don't exist yet like self-driving cars, ubiquitous security, monitoring, and enforcement. This is one of those 'spec' 'if you build it' you hope they come kind of situations. The jury is still out on whether this is a good bet or a very expensive Go90. Either way, the money is coming from 4G LTE.
Would anyone really want a robotic surgery performed remotely using a Cellular 5G signal as the pipe between the surgeon and the robot? Count me out !
With 5G you'll be able to watch full-length 3 hour Iron man movies on your tiny 8-inch mobile phone screen without it buffering!

So why did Verizon invest literally TENS of BILLIONS into 5G?

5G will be able to make people needlessly upgrade their phones..
I still think using it as the last mile for home internet has a good business case. But others higher up the chain disagreed. And now I'm gone, so I really don't care too much.

5G is all hype. It's going to be s-xy advertising for those "I got to have it " folks. Questions are at what price? and how many of the "I go to have it " folks will be willing to pay for it?
According to the Verizon commercials its going to cure cancer. Since it causes cancer I guess that would be a net zero and very ironic.

If you mean what is 5G going to do for the mass general public as in their youtube, google, and facebook? ....I'd say nothing....today all that, and even self-driving cars operate perfectly fine on 4G LTE
Now if it's for the medical field?....well then doctors can do off-site remote surgery using robots from their homes or vacation homes.....That's if the RF signal can effectively penetrate into a hospital.
