Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

What 2nd tier pay scale union member thinks we are going to make out this contract?

Once I get laid off after this next wave of layoffs to hit SCHENECTADY. I will never work and pay union dues again it is a complete joke. No job security, no equal work for equal pay. Many employers now a days offer the same as GE. Cr_p healthcare and a cr-p 401k along with no job security. So why pay union dues? I can do something else with the $785yr that I pay the union.

We will be lucky to get $2 raise over the next 4 years.

I will bet healthcare goes up again over the next 4 years.

I’m sure GE will cut the 401k contribution as well.

That is if there is not another layoff right before or after contract time. Which means that the D Rates will make out because the T Rates will be obsolete.

Time will tell

What do you think?

@ZuXMmeA-5iax You seem to forget: Respect is earned, for me neither one (GE or Union” ) have done that. If you’re not a current employee in the 301, you have no idea how it’s changed. I wish we were in the “good old days” but the reality is we aren’t. Now it’s a “what’s in it for me” mentality that will be the downfall of both.

I think you all should put more energy into what can each and every one of you do to save GE. I read these comments and am amazed at the b--ching and moaning a lot of you do! I am a former GE employee. GE was very good to me my whole career. The union fought hard to maintain what we fought for over the years...

I will say this once. IF YOU DONT LIKE GE or UNION, QUIT KNUCKLEHEADS.. NOTHING STOPPING YOU... SOME OF YOU MEN ON HERE ARE REALLY LIKE LITTLE KIDS... YES, DUDE THAT MEANS U ...…………………………………….. TOOOOOOOOOOO BAD YOU DIDNT PUT THIS MUCH EFFORT INTO YOUR JOB AND PERFORMANCE AS YOU DO ON HERE... RESPECT THE UNION AND GE!

@ZuXMmeA-1toc. ...That may be true for the unskilled labor (Bar shop, labor poo, inventory control) etc... but for the rest, not true by a long shot. GE is losing skilled trades employees every week to competitors and other outside businesses. Had the union not pushed for wage compression between the lowest and highest paid members, we would have been in a much better position come negotiation time. You're either clueless or a company mouthpiece.

"do you really have it that bad for the little that you do?"

Everybody knows this is what the reality is for a GE worker at Schenectady. They know how well we get paid for the little that we do. Yes there are moments where we are k--ling ourselves, but they are few and far between compared to the masses outside of GE. GE knows this, the Union knows this, We know this, and the Public knows this! Nobody feels sorry for us. The chickens have come home to roost. To ask for anything more than what we already have is making us look like spoiled brats. To think we won't have to give something up is making us look like id--ts. The pointing fingers is making us look childish. There was a time when you could be proud to tell somebody that you work for GE, that time has long since passed.

I cant think of any other union that doesn't treat the dues paying membership the way many at 301 do. At the same time, your gonna pay a lot more at other unions, but your also gonna work for a living at the same time. So ask yourself, do you really have it that bad for the little that you do? Good luck in your next job!!!!

The only thing protecting the D Rates are the T Rates. Once the T Rates are gone, then it's game time with the D Rates.
