False UP Online Employee Reviews (Glassdoor and Indeed)

Can anyone think of why someone, somewhere, would leave (obviously) fake positive employee reviews on websites like Glassdoor and Indeed?

They have titles like "serious ground transportation" and "great place to work" with four or five stars. Clearly the people (bots?) leaving these reviews have never worked there.

Yes the omt fmt program is still in operation. They had too many transportation managers leave after one year. Who else they going to hire to take those jobs. They’re the worst on the railroad

Good question. Do they still do OMT hiring, or have they finally accepted that the program is a failure?

@1lbj: I saw a lot of the same, even though it wasn't quite as bad on the engineering side.

IMO, the problem is that UP can't recruit experienced and qualified managers due to their horrible reputation and mediocre pay, and they don't do enough to promote agreement people from within.

The OMT program was a joke. Half those hired in every class quit within a year, many even sooner. only 1/4 of them are still with the company after three years. Most leave due to burnout. This has led to a revolving door that has left the crafts without capable field managers, and It only gets worse the higher up you go.

I’m a union person and have been with the railroad for over 2 decades. I have never heard managers badmouthing the company to their subordinates before like I do now. It’s getting pretty bad when te@y managers don’t give a flying phuck anymore I hear them talking about the horrible hours, mediocre bonuses, and horrible health insurance. Seems like this place is falling apart. When I began my career managers were mostly proud of their positions that they had earned by moving up in the ranks. Now most seem just as dissatisfied as us union people. The future doesn’t look good.

i mean what kind of degree do you need exactly to be a MOP? i'd be more worried about the executives that stole the stock diploma photo out of the frame for sale at walmart.

@mth: you're right, and the damage has already been done, at least as far as recruiting qualified college graduates from good schools is concerned.

Word is out that UP puts people in positions that have nothing to do with their degrees, and calls them into work 24/7 until they burn out and quit. Most college hires don't stay past their first year, because after that they don't have to pay back relocation and UP can't recoup training expenses. This is one reason why UP doesn't have any qualified junior managers.

Sad that with the fake reviews he’s still at 13%.

I care. Prospective employees look at that site before they apply. If it's harder for UP to bring in talent then they are more likely to incentivize their current employees to stay at UP (people are quitting).

Also it does put pressure on Lance if he's the worst rated CEO. That's why UP is spamming those sites with reviews.

It's one of the few ways employees can voice their opinion.

UP shills have been spamming Glassdoor with five star reviews for months, probably in an effort to fluff the CEO's approval rating, which supposedly doesn't matter (minus the fake reviews it would probably be even lower than 13%).

The shills are also spamming Indeed with fake five-star posts, and UP HR people are checking employees LinkedIn profiles to see if they're actively looking for other jobs. When I worked there this happened to me. The whole thing has an Orwellian feel to it.

Same reason why certain companies leave fake reviews for themselves on Amazon. Their product s---s so they have to try to pad all the one star reviews with some 5 star reviews. I saw one on Glassdoor recently from an MYO that had been with company supposedly 8 years and said the favorite thing about the company was all the promotion potential and mobility. I got a chuckle. So you’ve been an myo 8 years but the promotions are great? And if he was saying that because he went from conductor to myo well that’s a demotion so it still doesn’t make sense. Anyway I’m pretty sure that was a fake one because I’ve never met an myo with 8 years with the company that I thought would leave a 5 star review and say “no complaints”. I mean I like a lot of stuff about various things on the planet but I can usually find at least one area that needs improvement. But this fictional 8 year myo says everything is great I see no problems with working here at Union Pacific.

Well when people are hired they will find out real quick how unfriendly this company is to it's employees.
