Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

Got laid off today

I had just joined few weeks back and got laid off yesterday :). I saw the feed back on websites but i was so much blinded with GE that i didnt care about those and still joined. and now feeling that i have been screwed real hard. I know, even if i tell ppl dont join GE ever again, People would still join it. But if you have family then i would not recommend to join GE. They have laid off whole damn team, Save your self life and never join GE again

@YwNIqY2-2mvg, you talking about Dave Moyeda? It's true, people have literally died from the stressful work environment at GE. This place is toxic.

You are lucky. You still have your health and life. I saw many colleagues fall very seriously ill having worked 16-hour days, nights, weekends, holidays, vacations - over and over, year after year. Some died, and very likely, from tremendous exhaustion and immense stress.

You will land a better job for sure! The GE drama will continue to happen and you don’t need to put up with the BS. I have seen GE hire people, move their families and then terminate them after a few months. It’s a tough time but don’t be bitter. Most people are happier outside of GE.

So very sorry for you... pick yourself up ... there is a better life after...when I was there I saw sharp people be intentionally pushed aside to promote the OMLP’s with less experience less knowledge and I will boldly say it...less education..I saw hourly people treated poorly and called lazy because they sat half their shift with nothing to do yet when asked they simply didn’t have the materials, parts, or told which job to even work on.... meanwhile the young OMLP supervisor is running around kissing a$$ trying to get to the senior band then executive band before they turned 45..while hourly scrambled to produce..... folks.... it’s been turned into a disaster! A once great company now has the pity of now insiders thanking God they no longer work there.... I got out on my own and I assure you... life is much better.... you are lucky... you are out before they turn you into an arrogant miserable person....

"GE would not have hired you a few weeks ago and then terminated you unless you did something to warrant it." How naive can you be?

I have seen groups of hourly workers laid off within weeks of being hired several times. I have seen new college graduates have offers rescinded days before arriving. I have seen salaried employees take a promotion to a distant city, move their families, and be laid off within a month of arriving. None of them had done anything wrong to warrant it.

It should not happen. But it absolutely does happen.

Don’t believe a word of it? Click bait? Maybe....however they usually wait until they can find out if you are more intelligent or are a threat to their Band position... then...if you are... don’t worry... you’ll be put in a corner cubical given mediocre tasks until lay-off time... the rise of the average doesn’t last very long does it? Can we say going broke one foot print at a time? Well except for the CEO’s, looks like they ran off with the bank .....

I don't believe a word of it. First the statement, "I joined" tells me this is fake click bait. You don't join GE. It is not a country club, you are hired. GE would not have hired you a few weeks ago and then terminated you unless you did something to warrant it. You were so much blinded and joined anyway. The English is terrible also. Good try though, a few took the bait.

Sorry to hear that. You are the first target to cut in this extremely bad and political environment. Old employee is doing everything to kick new with 2 to 3 yrs with GE out. This means GE will never have external eye to fix problem and everyone will be gone.....sooner or later.

Only the desperate with no other option are staying with GE or going back! Why would anybody want to work with such desperate spineless coworkers?? It's like staying in an abusive relationship because you believe that no one else will take you. In some cases the person may be right but if you know you are worth more than the abusive treatment you are getting, then stay the hell away from GE!! You need to be too smart to accept the treatment. Only the ones dumb enough are still tolerating it. I'm glad I said F#%k GE a long time ago! Guess who isn't worried about their employment or retirement status?!?! This guy!!!!! It's a great feeling to be free from all that worrying!!!

Post ID: @YwNIqY2 : I feel your pain. Not a good time to accept job offer or even to think of seeking employment there. Management hardly knows what they are doing. Good luck. What is the division you worked for?
