Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Will we ever see the day where we will have better wages than other retailers?

Or at least the same wages… I know that Walmart is the biggest employer and that part of the company strategy (unofficially) is to have the workers work for as little as possible, but it’s kind of ironic that the most successful company is giving the bare minimum to its workers. Will things ever change?

No. Things just continue to get worse at Walmart. Eventually they may end up like Kmart.

@lgpa There is a foundation of truth in what you're saying, so to speak. I know another female associate that intentionally flirts with male managers to obtain favorable treatment. I don't hold it against her.

@1gpa, its not just who you know, but also who you blow, that gets you ahead in this company!

@ bxv: you're right, salaried management is and has always been the only way to make real money with walmart. Problem is, they no longer allow just anyone to pull themselves up to that promotion, no matter how good they are. Saw that in my time there too. It went from 'everyone has a real chance at this!' to 'nope....nope....ALLLLLMOOOOOST, YOU ALMOST MADE IT, KEEP TRYING' , only there was no reason to, because it's all political popularity favoritism contests now. Debate me if you want to about this, 'Who You Know' is now the SOP of this business.

@1mzx It sounds like you should apply at Target.

1bxv... I think the point is you shouldn't have to be management at Walmart to make what a 16 year old cashier at Target makes on their very first day. I'm pretty sure Target has management positions also and those positions pay more than Walmart as well. You need to compare Apples to Apples, get it now?

There is no goal or requirement in the pay/salary plan for Walmart to pay well, or even comparable to other retailers. The pay/salary plan strategy is to be low. They could care less about turnover. There will always be those that have no choice other than to work for Walmart.

Doubt it and they just keep taking, the latest being cutting our PTO accruel rate by nearly 20% at the DCs this year (yes this is including our PPTO). At some point they're going to run out of things to take and I'm not sure what their strategy for profitability will be at that point...
