Thread regarding Xerox Corp. layoffs

Dazed and confused

I left today feeling even more uncertain about my future.. I am now an employee of HCL. I don’t know who or what to believe.. senior managers made it sound like this was a great opportunity for us. We haven’t gotten our offer letters yet so we are unsure of what they’re offering us. But basically told to sign the offer letter or your out of job with no chance for unemployment or severance.. I don’t know what to do.. I’m still dazed and confused

Employee from Europe here.

I don't understand US employment law but here we have a two month period before transfer day.

I have to say I'm impressed with HCL - theres a lot to get involved with.

Seize the opportunity - if you don't like it you can always leave.

I can promise you everything they have done is legal. It's why they brought in Louie Pasteur to head OGC. He's one of Icahn'sh--men straight from Icahn Enterprises. Icahn has a playbook. Part of it is sending Louie around to the companies Icahn controls to revise all of their legal policies to be more favorable to Icahn's intentions.

Get an employment attorney to help you understand the agreement. That will help you determine how long to stay with HCL and the associated risks. Taking the deal is the only option in the short term. Otherwise you'll be left with few options for income until you have a new position.

FYI, for the person suggesting the 'unemployment' situation is illegal....in 2011 we called in the Dept of Labor to meet directly. They looked at the situation & said they could not help. I would expect all aspects of unemployment law were investigated before the contract was made.

I can confirm what @Ya4BDhv-haq said. In senior leadership we said to each other that there is no way all of us at our core will still be here in 6 months. That was about 3 months ago. We are one of the larger cores so our only hope is we will be among the last as they will start with the cores that are not as financially significant. But even that is only based on wishful thinking.

If you think the senior leadership at your core is less worried then you are, you are mistaken. Very little is being communicated to them and what they do get is partial. This board is usually a better source of information.

Actively and agressively start job searching; once HLC comes in and evaluates if your position can be outsourced and determines it can, you will likely be given your two weeks notice once you train their personnel on how to do your job. AND there will be further “cuts’ coming even if you survived the first round. Be aware that the Core’s Senior Mgt are not being told much ahead of time. Our team got the list of folks that were being rebadged about ten minutes prior to the WebCast yesterday.

And every President and the VP’s on the Service/Admin/OP’s’/HR/Finance side are on the chopping block too: once Xerox moves to the regional model, anyone not selected to head up their respective region’s division will be out of thier current job and possibly out of a job altogether. Currently, the only “safe” folks are the field service teams/techs and Sales.

In addition to media, attorneys and social media, those with ability to influence the stock market should do the right thing and blow the whistle of the various things we all see, but that they don’t:

1) tech powerhouse is a mythic smokescreen. Vader is like 5 people. There is no new revenue pipeline

2) internal audit and other governance functions removed or planned to be

3) cost cutting via outsourcing was tried and failed numerous times going back to EDS. Puts the provider in the seat to further lock in and gouge, especially with no oversight

4) suspicious quantity of former HP dunces at the c-level, who were asked to leave after decimating it

5) misrepresenting shareholders by stating transformation rather than true intent of dissolving or splitting & selling off. This one alone carries a criminal sentence for those at the very top.

Yahoo Finance? Seeking Alpha? Etc?

Being put in this position with management shoving HCL down our throats is not sitting well with me. I may be forced to accept the offer but will be actively job searching ... my heart is just not sold on this ‘deal’

Me too, but I am smart enough to see through management BS, I am calling a lawyer tomorrow, if any of you think this is a great opportunity you are wrong, we were screwed over. My company was successful because I did their contracts and I know another company will be so glad to get me, that I am confident about because I know how good I am.

I was a part of 2011. I'm still at HCL. Yes, many are gone. Some by choice, some not. But don't blame HCL. Whether HCL did it or Xerox did it, it's still mismanagement of a once great company by Xerox people. Cuts that were made were mostly generated by Xerox cuts. Some of our people chose to relocate to new HCL accounts. There are opportunities. System to get to them is kind c-appy, not gonna lie. A lot of the 'systems' are c-appy. But don't be afraid to go to HCL. It's at least a paycheck till you move on. And network with each other and with everyone you know. It's not the end of the world.

Seek out a employment lawyer in your state to ensure they are telling the truth about no unemployment.

Inform the local investigative media anonymously (simple letter in the mail no return address) asking if unemployment under these circumstances is legal. Trust me,Xerox is blowing smile and hoping you believe the lie.

Managers were instructed to make it look great while the whole time they were serving you a Sh--. Sandwich. I’m so sorry.

How long do you have to sign the letters? I wouldn't know what to do, either. :( I just feel like the move to HCL will ultimately end with those people losing their jobs at some point in the future.
