PC/TC Evaluations

I have worked for WM for many years and never received anything less than a solid performer rating on my evaluation. This year, I received several needs development. Has anyone else had this happen? The timing seems suspect. I can’t help wonder if this will wreck my chances of being considered for the people lead position.

I’ve been threatened numerous times that if my people metrics don’t improve, don’t be surprised if I don’t get a PL spot. 18 years of exceeds evaluations don’t mean c-ap I guess. Not to mention, the PC has little to no control of our people metrics numbers when you work for a SM who cares very little about training, hiring and retention.

So many hourly employees were getting their jollies when the Co-Manager culling went down. Not nearly as funny now that it's happening to you is it? Karma....

Did you really expect a different outcome. The handwriting was on the wall since the first day the people lead position was announced. Back then the WM needed us to be calm and carry on. The carrot of the opportunity to “apply” for the new position was dangled so that we would work harder in the hopes we might be one of chosen ones. I cannot wait to get my severance and get out. Who in their right mind would want to work for or shop at a company with such low morals. Good luck to you.

You will not be considered for the lead position or any other position in the company. Its a company policy. If they make an exception for anyone in your same class they are opening themselves up for a lawsuit. Ironically WM will hire anyone with a pulse and then screw over longtime loyal associate, rather than doing right by them. This is totally f’d up. You have my sympathy.

While I sympathize with the personnel associates, you are being naive if you think this is about saving money on raises. It is about saving money on lawsuits. It is much easier to defend getting rid of older associates if they can show poor performance was part of the decision making process. I know it is hard, but it is time that associates realize that we are all expendable and the company does not care about us. Once you accept those truths, you will be empowered and can take control of your lives again. It is just a job and does not define who you are.

I had my review last week and had the exact same experience. So did our TC. We never got anything below solid and I ended up with two needs development and she got three. This cant be a coincidence. If my work is not up to par, I can accept that and will work to improve. What I find unfair is that neither of us had any idea that this was coming. Management has been nothing but complimentary of our work. We were never told we needed to improve before being blindsided with these low ratings. Clearly our manager needs development on her coaching for excellence skills, but she will probably be rewarded for this. I think she wanted to make sure we dont get a PL position and that our severance checks are as low as possible. We can’t even go out with our heads held high and proud that our years with the company were valued and appreciated. Shame on management and shame on WM for letting this to happen. We and all the other long term employees who are losing their jobs on Aug 2 deserve better.

I find it hard to believe most of you are in Personnel. If you are, it doesn't seem that you understand your job.

@fzy. Unemployment premiums are paid by the employer not the employee. That said it in their interest to deny any claims as approved claims may increase their premiums. Not saying it's right, but it is what it is.

I was told that you cannot be promoted if your overall rating is a needs development.

Maybe the worst part of how WM goes about lightening their load with this is, they fight you to the death over your unemployment. Insult on top of injury. The kind of dirtiness that rightfully gets people shot in the face. You pay into that fund for years on end, don't even get a choice of having to do so, and then when / if you need it, you have to fight for it? That's complete bullsh!t. I love and support all retail workers and wish tthem the best through this struggle, but WM can go straight to HELL.

@ jnf, be glad I'm not your boss, I'd have you outa there in a hurry. Your post alone tells me you're a sore thumb every where you go on the planet. I see a an illustrious, long future of denied unemployment claims in your life.

I received several needs also. I have only been with the company a short time. My problem, simple put my mouth and behavior. They want me to quite and do what they tell me, no questions asked. I greet the customers and I am a hard worker. I guess if I was a brown noser I would get a good evals. .

Don't know the specifics of your situation and I can't say if this has the same equivalency in the stores, but associates in the HO who have had stellar reviews on their evals over the past 10 years (or longer) that happen to receive 'needs improvement' or below has become the kiss of death.

These associates find themselves kicked to the curb with no chance to take whatever 'corrective action' is needed to keep their jobs.

The HO is no longer giving severance packages to those they lay off. The HO now gives a bad eval to rid themselves of long term associates who happen to make too much.
