Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Are raises and promotions a thing of the past?

It’s not just that we have to be fearful of getting laid off, but we also have to make piece with the fact that it is nearly impossible to progress at this company. Of course, how could we when regular workers are getting cut and the number of managers stays the same. Is it even worth working for a company in which you are uncertain al the time, and getting a promotion or a raise is considered wishful thinking?

And don’t forget all that contingency planning we managers have to do during the day instead of real work to make things better every time the union threatens to strike. Thank you cwa !!!!

Agree-why would anyone want a promotion. You get 5% more money (if you are lucky) and double the work. Of course with the layoffs, many of us have triple the work now with the same pay- but we are happy to do that to keep our jobs. After all- we face constant threats of downsizing, offshoring, automation, H1B abuse and the like. There was a reason why labor unions came to power- this is why.

There is no progression or chance for advancement in the company these days for the workers unless you are part of the club of friends and exec level Management.....Folks are just trying to keep a job these days...hence why morale is at an all time low....and it is really wearing on those of us who are trying and give 100% plus. Employees in general just don't give a c**p lately. It is evident daily and hard to get anything done these days as folks are not responsive and are not doing their jobs to the best of their ability......Others appear stressed out and are acting inappropriately by being abrupt to others and yelling on calls etc...I had a Customer calling me as she was given my phone number as a Billing Collections Rep who was going to help her?? I have nothing at all to do with billing nor do I have any contacts in that area. I called all over the Company for days to find someone to help her and finally was given names and an email....... I reached out to the Contacts given and gave them the Customer's info for a call back.....Well over a week later the same lady, the Customer, called me again looking for help as no one ever responded to her and she said neither did the Sales Rep.. Again, I reached out to everyone and asked them to please please get back to the Customer... .I surely hope someone responded to the Customer....very unfortunate.

It's not necessarily all a R vs D problem in America. Kind of funny how these liberal socialist Dems preach one message with our money but morph into fiscal conservative Republicans when it comes to their own money. A lot of liberal Dem CEO's fall into this category. Even ole' Big hearted Bernie complains about the Trump tax cuts but took advantage of them. Greed seems to be one thing near the heart of the issue. How many millions does a CEO need? On the other hand, when was the last time you got a job from a poor man? Our good Democratic leaders have done us workers no favors by passing tax laws, trade policies, and environmental restrictions that have resulted in moving many of our jobs out of the country. Say what u want, but Trump seems to have done more for unionized labor than many of the previous D administrations. One side didn't break it, but both sides can fix it quicker together than they can apart. Hopefully both sides can work things out and keep us moving in the right direction.

Get out while you can. They dumped me after 21 years, and the retirement benefits have been stripped. So if your holding out hoping for a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, it’s not there.

Not sure why people want promotions when a 5-10% raise comes with a 50%+ increase in the amount of work and responsibility. AT&T's salary bands have effectively become a salary cap for most L2's. Raises are cancelled out by inflation and increases in the cost of benefits. This keeps employees at status quo or below in terms of real compensation. If you want raises it is best to leave the company and then make additional job changes every 2 years.

Just a bunch of lazy socialist leeches complaining on this board. Make something of yourself and move on from AT&T if you hate it so much. It’ll make for a better work environment for the rest of us who aren’t afraid to work.

If you can’t thrive in the current economic environment then you are making poor life choices or have extremely bad, unfortunate luck. Maybe time to terminate your contribution to the human gene pool I.e. no procreation for you.

It’s ironic how those that are hurt the most by republican policies are the ones who keep voting Republicans in. The Republican Party and Fox News do an excellent job of distracting its viewers from what really matters and instead telling them that it’s about “war on Christmas “ or “tranvestites in the bathrooms” or Benghazi or pick whatever fill in the blank culture war topic you want. It’s all noise and distraction designed to get regular folks fired up and angry and feeling rebellious to win republican votes. The reality is, if you are middle class or poor, you are doing yourself harm voting for republicans. They are the ones working against your interests and protecting the rich. Just look at the facts and not the talking head commentators who are NOT News journalists (Sean Hannity for one , who has no real credentials and is really just an entertainer; and only there for ratings and profit ) Forget all the noise and distractive culture war nonsense . Vote for who is looking out for the middle class the most. Hint. It’s not trump and his crony’s

Who are the most corrupt in our nations history yet. Do your homework and find the facts. It involves turning off the tv, getting off your arse and doing a little real homework. Democrats are not much better but they are the lesser of the two evils when it comes to the health of the middle class.

I agree that the GOP has consistently promoted and tried to implement policies that have hurt working people over the years, they are the tools that big business uses to put taxpayer money in to the pockets of the rich.

Otherwise what explains the transfer of wealth in to the hands of the very rich? They work harder...that is so comical it hardly deserves comment. They are smarter? Like Trump??

The system is rigged to their benefit, that is why they get richer and we get less.

Al Sharpton...naw, bringing him up is just a distraction because you have nothing persuasive to say that is based on facts.

Republican capitalists? Yes, but unfortunately the Democratic Party has largely become GOP-lite, with little backbone to oppose the aggressive and well organized machine of bullies that the GOP has become.

While I don’t believe this number of customer losses can be attributed to ending promotions there is something to be said about chasing 10 dollar a month customers that the data shows will drop our services as soon as the promotions are over. The 20 to 25 billion capital budget shows everything is not installed. Plus maintenance on a lot of these services are not cheap. We have a lot of well paid talent dedicated to that part of the business.

Just not understanding the loss of customers due the end of promotions. All the Fiber-Copper-Electronic-Satellites have been installed .....yet more and more are becoming idle. Return on Assets is not being managed at all......the falls on senior management. Why does Senior Management only focus on one item .....this year it's debt.....the hell with sales....... ever heard of multitasking..or are we lazy or too

The Republicans over the years have greatly reduced the earnings of the common man. Health cost off loaded to the workers...Pensions non existent -replaced by 401ks that were never designed to replace pension. If anyone got a raise in the last tens it was erased by declining rules that protect workers. ATT makes "billions" each quarter and yet the workers absorb more and more of the Corporation expenses.
