I love how the separated employees come here and bash what it’s like to work at GM post separation. How do you know? I guess if it gives you comfort thinking that it’s all gloom and doom, then go ahead and keep bashing. I find it hard to believe that every person in every organization is as miserable as you would like to think. I can speak for myself and my organization, and you will all be disappointed to hear that we are all working hard, enjoying our jobs and optimistically looking forward to what the future at GM holds!

I think that China paid Mary off. She sells the coming of the 4th industrial revolution with electric and AI. Then builds factories in China and Brazil to just freely take our intellectual property, then in the end they will have the world market on lithium and we have to buy energy capacity from them at a very high price. End result is Chinese factory worker has doubled their wages in last decade to $16k a year, and Mary Barra eliminated the $70k a year US employee.
Mary is bad for the United States future.

Never in my 20 year career have I known so many people at GM who are actively looking for a job somewhere else.
OP is quite naive. Some people have a tendency to believe they are special and all others deserve what happens to them. Then Oh Snap, they get blindsided and the blinders and rose colored glasses are knocked of..... and they scream Unfair, Unfair.
Wisdom means you keep your trap shut at work, but your eyes and ears are wide open. How others are treated is how you will also be treated. Tick Tock
Morale is rock bottom
There is no trust in leadership
Waiting for the next round of layoffs
Zero-Zero-Zero
Go get a job at FCA, if they are so great. See if you can get hired and last as long as their great vehicles warranty.
1kii - Said it best. The passionate car guy that loves the history and heritage of GM , it's all gone for me now. Apparently Marrys vision is to have a computer console do everything so you don't have to think anymore , hmm Bones said that ?
@YLBFkdl What makes you think that this site is only for ex-employees? If you're an employee and YOU'RE here reading and posting, how do you know that the guy sitting next to you isn't doing the same with an opposing opinion? I could be that guy for all you know.
Your personal comment is just one viewpoint and could not possibly represent the full set of opinions across the enormous number of different organizations at GM. Also, don't assume that everyone visiting this site has been laid off. I also still work at GM and come here in hopes of some early information on future layoffs, demotions to lower levels, etc. Finally, many of the folks on this site still have people that they talk to at GM. All of the above add up to different viewpoints that portray GM. If you don't find this information valuable, why you even visit this site? Personally, in my organization, morale is extraordinarily low with the majority having very negative opinions about our executive leadership, particularly their poorly thought out plan for GM's future.
( Note ) FCA sales are kicking major booty , why you ask ! 1) all of their products look awesome and 2) we aleinate our customers to seek the competitors 😉 Winning with integrity Marry , Puke.
Keep your noses to the grindstone and out of the managers stink hole and you'll survive , who cares what others are doing , collect your check and go home.
We are glad you have "job enrichment" misery loves company , ever heard that expression? I don't think most people want anyone to be miserable , I would suggest that people on the outside are just curious as to the vibe inside. You sound like a childish doucher that should have been on the not wanted naughty list out the door.
GM's knee jerk reaction to just fire a bunch of people is what makes it bad , they lost alot of very valuable skill sets and why you ask ! To make dirty money grubbers like Warren Buffet happy , there is your answer. GM was a great company and had alot of potential to do the right things but the truth is greed has blinded the company and the United States of America , along with other countries end of story , we have to live with a CEO that has destroyed the companies image which in turn is hurting sales so yeah her prediction was right about sales slowing but what she failed to point out is she's the cause of the poor sales , now all of you that monitor warranty are going to see a very large spike , all of the years trying to reduce it we're for nothing. Customers clearly do not come first is how I see it from GM but the ever so important share holders , she is an absolute failure that has done nothing for GM but make it go into the toilet and nobody here will disagree , well maybe the a-- kissers will.
I still work here. I'm actively trying to get out of this company. Benefits are good, pay is bad, and overall lack of skills amongst a lot of fellow coworkers makes me feel less motivated to work here. GM is what it is and what is it will always be: a
sh t car company.
I hope you're not IT. If you are then you may wanna temper your enthusiasm. If you are, work force reductions will be a way of life as long as Mott leads it. Who knows, you may survive them all. I survived about 20, till this last one. But, now that WFRs have started at GM, you will be constantly wondering when the next one is coming. Don't believe me? Ask anyone on your team that is still around, from HP IT. If that's the work culture you want work under, go for it. Good luck.
I agree with the prior post mostly. Same situation making a monster salary more than what GM was paying. Best move out of the company for my career. But where we differ is that I won't promote or purchase their products.
Being let go from GM at the age 37 was the hardest thing ever. 3 months later it was the best thing ever. Making more money now, flexibility, family time and not worrying if I was going to get the tap on the shoulder that day. I will still buy GM products. I hope they make it through the roughest times ahead. #TEAMGM for life
The contract to salary ratio is typically 80/20. If you don't have that ratio within your department, every option is still on the table to elimate salary personnel. Be mindful of the indicators. You learn them with decades of GM exposure.
I'd guess young and naive, or completely unaware, but the only policy that GM is good at, is having multiple rounds of layoffs.
If you are contract, this is what happens. If you are blue badge, your tell on whether you are safe or not, is if they bring back contractors as a buffer to salary. If there lacks that buffer, you aren't done. There may be more doom and gloom in the future.
It's a gigantic company , I loved it there and no I hope it's not doom and gloom for anyone because that is no way to live , everyone's experience is different from department to department. In my case it was doing more with less people unfortunately , would I return absolutely I would because I worked with a great team of people , the work life balance is the best around and that alone is worth it's wait in gold .
Most of us have friends that were not so lucky and still work at GM.
That's where we get the doom and gloom from.
As for me getting let go by GM was a blessing.
You keep on drinking that koolaid
