Thread regarding Walgreens layoffs

Walgreens Cuts Hours & Lets Shoplifters Walk

I work at Walgreens to supplement my retirement and have relied on 38-42 hrs. per payroll period. I am now cut down to one shift per week. Walgreens is famous for shoving customer service down our throats yet by cutting employee hours, which yields less workforce on the floor, customer service basically gets thrown out the window. Walgreens continually sets their management and employees up for failure by these nonsensical tactics. In addition, it is the height of hypocrisy that Walgreens demand employees' bags be searched prior to leaving shift, yet shoplifters have free rein by being permitted to walk out the store with shelves of product knowing employees are restricted from stop & search when setting off the alarms. Walmart has a theft prevention policy in place and does not hesitate to have customers provide receipts for merchandise going out the door. I don't see any reduction in their customer volume base. Most stores also post signs indicating that shoplifters will be prosecuted, yet Walgreens maintains they wish to provide a welcoming atmosphere for their shoppers and providing excellent customer service, thereby refusing to post such warnings. Their surveillance cameras on high-crime merchandise is a joke as well. All in all, Walgreens corporate management style is a joke.

I was standing in A long line at Walgreens yesterday (only staff person visable was cashier!). 7-8 folks with their wallets out to pay when a 40+ year old man and woman with big plastic shopping bags bulging with who knows what just walked briskly by...heads head high, eyes strait ahead...aloof. Walked right past us stupid "privileged" people patiently waiting in line to pay. Must be nice to be in a protected DEI class. Sorry if that offends anyone but it is what is truly happening.

Walgreens " payment optional policy" may or may not make sense (cents) for Walgreens but it is certainly corrupting the values of our communities & country. Walgreens owes it to the communities they serve (profit from) to add a full time security guard at front door!

Walgreen’s should get bad publicity for letting shoplifters have free range at their stores. The cost of this is paid by those of us who work and pay for our items. The news channels should be all over corporate and their policy. It’s ridiculous and makes us a target for all kinds of people. A bus driver told me how they all get on the bus go in the back and trade items they’ve stolen from the store. They’ve also gone into the rest rooms and use d–gs and in case you didn’t know the cashiers have to clean them I’ve found needles and every thing you can imagine in the trash cans It’s gross.
When I find another job I’m out of there The pay s—s too unless you’re a managers favorite !
Corporate should change their policy Media should attack them They shouldn’t be permitted to let people steal or to pay poverty level wages for work

Walgreens is a joke. I work there and shoplifting is out of control. I got robbed about a month ago and when I came in the next day instead of the managers asking if I was doing ok I got in trouble for letting the robber get too much money. True story. I’ve gotten attacked by shoplifters and had merchandise thrown at me and my car has been vandalized in the parking lot.

Getting our bags searched (in front of customers which is so embarrassing if they don’t know you work there) and lockers checked and having to put stickers on everything while Bonnie and Clyde walks out with a shelf full of products. Risked our health working through a pandemic and being treated worst than the thieves. When i’m done with school, I won’t even shop here.

A few nights ago at 11pm i went into Walgreens to get a snack. A guy pulled up on a gray painted bike. He didn't pay attention to me. While in line the guy walked right past me with a Walgreens plastic bag loaded with stuff. He didn't check out. The manager asked the clerk if he paid. He basically hopped on his bike and rode off. It bothered me. Tonight as I'm going in to pick up pr-scrip-ion, a guy pulls up parks his bike in same spot. Its the exact same bike! How do I know? Because I pay attention to my surroundings at night. Grayish spray painted body. One distinct feature. Swastika sticker on bottom bar. Here's the puzzle. He goes in with a big army looking type back pack. He left with nothing. Pulled out a beard and cap, then rode off. Some other guy goes in the store and brings out the back pack. He's on a red bike. I think this is really sketchy. I drive around the block. The back pack is empty. Flat laying next to the building. I ask the guy, hey man is that your back pack? I ask, You need any help? He grabs it and hops on his bike. I think they got a "relay" going. I like Walgreens. They need to hire security. It could escalate. Its not safe! FOR CRYING OUT LOUD, WALGREENS!! DONT GO OUT OF BUSINESS BECAUSE EVERYONE KNOWS WHATS GOING ON! HIRE SOME D*** SECURITY! JEEZ!!

Realy, some of you people just don't get it, Have people become this dumb? I will never shop at Walgreens unless they change their policy.

Do you think the store owners of Walgreens just take a loss on the things stolen from their stores? Its all profit margins that stores and all businesses rely on, if the margins are low they raise their prices, If the margins are high they are very happy. Every time Walgreens allows a thief to walk out of their stores you and I pay more when we pay for our merchandise to make up for what the thief stole. This is not rocket science.

And beyond that, when did we as a people start thinking that it is ok to allow stealing from others? Tell me what is the difference between the Walgreens thief and a thief stealing your car? Would that ok with you?

I know it’s frustrating to watch, but as a Walgreens employee, I honestly don’t see how I am personally effected by shoplifting. In truth, Walgreens has lots of money and can afford shoplifting. I do think they should have stricter policy but at the end of the day, I’m not being payed by how much customers buy, I’m being payed by the hours.

Walgreens actually fires employees for even confronting shoplifters. It's in their corporate policy. No one should feel bad for that company. They encourage this!

Absolutely agree. Don’t even think of cooperating with police or worrying about shoplifters. Walgreens would rather get rid of dedicated proven employees then worry about someone stealing from the store and endangering not only employees but customers as well.

The more theft the fewer hours and higher the cost of items. True if someone steals from the store you are not to do anything about it. And yes they can always come back to the store. One other way they have of cutting cost is like many others. Ten weeks before I could get my full retirement. I was fired because a customer gave me a fake 100.00 bill it looked real even had the ridges

At the store I work store manager sits in office chatting with employees leaving one person on floor, the cashier. These same employees talk on their phones while on the floor. They make food runs, sometimes 30-45 mins. while on clock. They come in late. This has been going on for several years, so actual loss of hours only hurts the ones who work. Manager gives the hours to the ones who sit in office and he refers to as useless. When he's on PTO, everyone works and no problems.

I was let go after 15+ years of service (part time) because everybody's hours were cut drastically. Everybody except the Beauty Consultant...who spends most of her time in the office doing "training" online or in online "meetings." Managers are scared they will be cut next. Meanwhile, corporate keeps pushing "Exceptional Customer Care" and Frontier. No photo tech? Give them ECC! Only 2 people on the floor? Give them ECC. Yup...no Wag in 5 years.

The Walgreens policy on shoplifting is an open invitation to the criminal element. This id--tic policy is NOT for the safety of employees and customers as the company claims; It was simply born of Corporate's fear of bad publicity and lawsuits. Anyone who claims otherwise is a liar.

Walgreens doesn’t care about their employees or customer. Shady practices and unattainable expectations. They have lost most of their talent in the past few years. It’s only going to get worse. And the stock price. Ouch.

@YKHt2ll-bhyo and again they show that they don't care about their employees. I could understand if employees were tackling shoplifters and holding them in a headlock, but not even being able to deter them is ridiculous.

They also don't want you calling the police until AFTER the person leaves the store, and doesn't want you getting information on them. If you see a repeat offender, just let them go on their merry way and steal as much as they want. The shoplifting report page used to have boxes for information, ex. what was stolen, license plate #, if police were contacted, etc. Now the shoplifting report is just "was something stolen?" yes/no, and that's it.

There should be a sign up on the window that says: Payment optional.

Having less employees in the store is MORE dangerous, believe it or not. If someone brings a gun in and threatens the employee, they have to wait until the gunman leaves the store to call anyone?? There could be a mass shooting where every customer is k--led in the store along with Walgreens' ONE employee, because no one was there to call the police/the company instructs employees to wait until the gunman leaves to call 911.

Walgreens claims to have their policies for "safety" but their actions say otherwise.

If they really cared about safety, they would actually put a security guard in every store. Paying them, say, $20/hour would cover stuff that is stolen on a daily basis.

Corporate claims that security guards would make customers "uncomfortable". Uh, only if they plan on stealing stuff?? Whenever I go somewhere and see a security guard, I either don't care or feel SAFER because someone is there to protect us.
