Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

Original poster here. Sounds like MPG is pretty quiet today. It sounds like things in general are slowing down. Did Warren get hit hardest? My heart goes out to all employees and families who are going through this, and I hope we all KNOW something by the end of today!

MPG B104 and B94 were hit again on Thurs (Feb 7). They apparently give those canned a list of ages to prove that it's not age-discrimination. The results look like they kept some older low performers and canned younger good performers to make it even across ages.

I think “safe” is declared group by group, but it would be good to hear which M1lford-based groups have been ruled safe.

Sig-O here, too. Any Lyft/taxis queued up anywhere? Sure would like to know where we stand so we get back to some semblance of life.

I worked at MPG and was walked out today. Doesn’t matter if you keep your head down, they still get you. I got an IM from my now former Director. Game over, job gone

They took more from 104 today again still haven’t heard an all clear from anyone . Has anyone else ?

Even my ex was distraught over this. Just goes to show the effect it's having on people.

I can’t speak for every work setting but most salaried people can accept phone calls during the day. I think most of us are trying to stay invisible right now though.

I have worked outside of GM, and to be honest the “new GM” culture was a major improvement over pre-bankruptcy GM.

What the culture becomes after this restructuring is over remains to be seen.

There were several hiring freezes in the last 20 years that created odd gaps in ages, experience, and technical skills among employees. I’m not sure any amount of planning for “normal” attrition would have restructured the company in a timely matter. Just my opinion.

Yes MPG has been hit mon, tues and today. (Wed off due to weather). Monday was I think PT groups in bld 23,24 (others?). Tues and today is bld 16, 104 and 94. Not sure about any other blds.

@XvJl1FT-svg I think you're blessed to have an answer. Move forward with dignity, grace, and the assurance that the next chapter will be much, much better. May the rest of us (spouses/partners, immediate families, and even friends and extended families) know sooner rather than later.

So many spot-on references: HR Dementors, Hunger Games, Machiavelli...I'm horribly afraid that someone with untreated mental health issues will be pushed over the edge. Let's just get it over with!!

Spouse here. I'd like to know if they are not allowed to answer calls or texts during the work day. I just want some indication of 'all good' during the day. It is nerve wracking waiting for that word. I imagine it is a million times worse on the inside.

Supplier here. Seems to me the only people being targeted are the talented older people. Lost two very good resources on my program, and hear that other useless people will be inheriting their duties. Very sad. IDK how anyone can work at this company. Your culture is horrible, and everyone I work with seems miserable 90% of the time.

I am an outsider. I imagine that GM management is reading this board as well. You are a group of disgusting people to be treating employees like this. You claim to be respecting them? You are being cruel to them.

Spouse here, too. There is not word out of the proving grounds so far, but my SO was let go this morning from another location. I have been living in a fog all week and honestly, knowing is better than the living hell of the past 120 hours. Stay strong.
