Two weeks notice or no?

Hey Guys,

I found a different job that I'm planning to start mid march. I was thinking about putting in a two weeks notice Feb 15 to get my bonus on the 28th, but I've been thinking I could just be walked out before the 28th. What do you guys think?

Nope, nope and nope. If you dont get laid off, keep quiet, collect the bonus then give as much notice as possible - if its not 2 weeks, big deal.

No absolutely No! Take the money and run like a mad dog abandoning the bi@#h in heat. Even before this baby mama drama from Marry aka "Suzie cream cheese " Anyone that gave a two weeks notice was walked out within hours of giving the notice , I saw it in Pontiac alot , but I think hr gets all in a twist over it. Cheers to all of you good guys and gals for having to deal with this horse sh-- .

nope. you're not a schemer. you worked for and deserve the bonus.

any time you switch jobs or roles, the new team always wants you there like yesterday.

play it cool and do what is best for you. good companies understand this because they want

you to start with a happy, enthusiastic mood.

I told my prospective employer, and they were the ones that suggested not giving a notice until I have the bonus in my hand. Maybe some would think you're a schemer, but who isn't out here looking out for just themselves.

Do it. Give us a spectacular exit. One for the ages to remember.

@yeo has the correct answer. just wait it out.

  • if you're laid off, you get pay + bonus. resignation doesn't matter, your new job awaits.

  • if you're not laid off, work another month with pay + bonus. give notice on 3/1 then

see what happens. your new job awaits, so what happens at GM doesn't matter.

working less than two full weeks before departure means eh. you're still good.

  • if you give two weeks notice on feb 15th, you may get walked out--just depends

on your project and dev mgr. so why risk it? you still have your new job, but you may lose out

on bonus for work completed in 2018--which you earned.

stick it out. go with the punches. inform your new employer the perfect start day is mid-march.

a good employer will understand and work with you.

good luck

2 weeks is customary, but not required. I would give notice on March 1.

Whatever you do not give your 2 weeks until you receive your bonus. I know it is unprofessional if you would have to leave without the standard 2 weeks, but it would be naive to believe that you won't be let go before the 2 weeks and not receive your bonus. There is now way I would trust management right now. Be reasonable the most important thing is getting your bonus before you leave.

Don't say a word and see if you get walked. If you do, you'll get to partially double-dip for up to 6 months. If not, you can give your notice at the end of Feb and still collect your bonus.

If you told your prospective employer about your dilemma would they see it as a smart move or a schemer with ethics issues? Not trying to troll here, just wondering at this point which way the experiment would break.

Leave now. They wouldn't give you 2 weeks notice if they can you. Times have changed...this isn't 1980 or 1990 any longer. You're better off leaving and tossing c-gare--e butts on the manager's car on the way out. They could care less about you so return the favor.
