Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

Why do you chose to stay at General Electric?

So many people are unhappy here yet everybody still stays. I personally stay because despite everything, I enjoy my job and my coworkers. I've been working with mostly the same group of people (minus retirements and layoffs) for nearly two decades and they feel like family now. Thinking of leaving that for something completely unknown is daunting to me, to be honest.

What are your reasons for staying?

I left six months ago - life couldnt be better. The grass is greener and GE is a toxic mess I do not miss one bit (but this website is still hilarious, so gotta keep up with that). Those that stay recognize they are not employable on the outside, lazy, comfortable or are just scared. Either way, if youre trying to get ahead in life, you're working for the wrong company. Retrospectively, I should have left years ago.

Because I'm a hero when I come home as I try to forget about my day.

I stay for the entertainment of co workers stressing everyday if we will have a job tomorrow. I stay to watch managers and office personnel back stab each other daily.

I stay because it is the closest I can get to my kids and still make the support payments on time.

@dpd you are correct. Culp is incentivized to get stock price up so the fat cats can get out without major loss. He will cook the books as GE always has for the short term gains, at the future’s expense. When Culp quits (I suspect before the end of 2019), look out...it’s all over. Next guy will be a liquidation expert.

I was raised very poor and stay for the pension. (I dont care if you think the pension will go away or not). I have made more money but had LESS FAMILY TIME, so if anyone knows of a decent job in Greenville SC are that has a decent pension please share. Time at home with my FAMILY is what I WANT. Good Luck to everyone

I left that polished terd FOR the benefit of my family,LOL! GE was the highest paying worst job I have ever had in my life! This was Erie(Trans)btw, which made the decision to leave easier. The union would withhold as much info as management, just a sh@thole of a plant, and mindless work being done by trained monkeys.

I'm riding the pony till it dies. If they offered a package so I retain my pension and got just a little more than my severance, I'd be gone. I can get a better job, and have had recruiters call, but I'm not going to flush 20 years and let GE off the hook. It's coming, the bean counters will take over after the fourth quarter report is released. The RIFs will be flowing. It makes sense and the market is demanding it. Keep in mind that the new CEO's pay is largely based on the stock price, and many board members and top execs have bought millions of stock. The changes will be about stock reaction not about rebuilding the company, if it were, the top three layers of management would have replaced. Kulp would have brought in his own team. Time will tell.

I think most people put up with a lot of c-ap for the benefit of their families.
