Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Upcoming Changes - Get Ready!

Signals identifying upcoming changes.

  1. Mkt mgrs attending a meeting in the middle of January before the YBM meetings.

  2. Year Beginning Meeting store manager meeting moved to the end of January, versus usual time end of February to middle March.

  3. Early performance ratings due.

Changes coming - The Majors

  1. Reduction of Divisions from 4 to 3.

  2. Regional managers being eliminated. Only those with the title of Regional Vice President will be retained. Others were told to find jobs a couple months back. Realignments and more stores per Region.

  3. Sudden announcements of Senior Level Managers retiring. Creating movement for reductions and no replacements announced.

  4. Overnight stocking going away March or April time frame. Stores closing Overnight, a small handful will only be 24 hours. Associates will be offered the new CAP positions.

  5. Reduction of Asst Managers due to no Overnight stocking.

  6. Consolidation of positions in Reg and Mkt level Support positions, HR and Asset Protection.

  7. Store Manager bonuses being reduced considerably and will be offered RSUs (restricted stock units) to make up the difference.

  8. Store Manager bonuses can be reduced by a percentage if underperforming and be reallocated to Store Managers performing above them in the Market. (Favoritism at it best)

  9. Company has to move on starting rate due to competitors, thus the new attendance policy to make it easier to turnover associates, and bring in new associates. Eliminates disgruntled long term associates without having to level pay.

Always have a backup plan and an exit strategy!

Never wait to be pushed to make your next move. Be proactive in your planning and moves not reactive to the Company eliminating you or your position.

Good luck to all!

Does anyone have more information on the csm position being eliminated? Its coming for our store but I cannot find a definite answer as to where we go once the change happens. I have seen some say they could take other positions if available but have also seen that csms cannot take a lower position and will possibly get a severance package. Anyone know any details that could help me with this change so that I am not blindsided last minute?

Full of lazy managers who want so much done. Honestly they promote relatives too much. I got word from a manager at my Wal-Mart that every other manager is somehow related to the store manager. Honestly nonsense Store 5221. They’re all lazy and dumb and want so much.

Overnights no weekends off over 12 years. Kicked me out middle of shift. All three asso mgrs looking at me. I'm still ok I never give up. Fired all two the next week. Unbelievable. Can still there only 3 outta 15. Once that tower came in and auto floor cleaner and auto shelf checker came in I knew we were done for. If they liked you u get to stay lower pay stocker or dairy it cap. No overnight. Hey do yourself a favor and get another job B4 they kick u to the curb. No severance at all benefits stop day u fired. Horrible. I had doctor appts that week. Not worth the agony. Get your unemployment make sure u gave that in writing as they will fight u in it. I won. It stinks. But if Mr Walmart came back his heart would break. When this multi business fails and it will prob due to the Wuhan virus where all the clothes are made in China and the towels etc. It will be a sight to see. Now I have a day job and don't feel like a zombie anymore. U reading this get out now before they push u out in the middle of your shift which is humiliating!!!

I've been hearing about them removing the CSM positions (of which I am one) I am a long term associate and I manage to live off of what I make now. But word up is they are going to go to one store manager, one co-type salary manager, 2 Leads for the front, 1 Lead for the rest of the store, with everyone else moving to level 2/3 floor positions, most of which are going to be part time (so they don't have to pay insurance for them). What is happening? I am planning several exit strategies to cover each situation.... ie, a move closer to home when they start eliminating (saving me gas $$ therefore allowing me to live on a smaller paycheck), making a move closer to home NOW and going to an area that is moving up and not smaller....(online sales/pickup, vision center, pharmacy)..., waiting until offered severance (with all my years and current pay this will not be a small figure, IF it is offered, and IF I have figured it correctly) then leaving... or just leaving and going to another company right now.

I, as well as many of you are questioning the reasoning behind this RIF (and that's the only thing you can call it) ... I know it's about money... (WHAT, $400,000,000.00 IN SALES WAS NOT ENOUGH??) but they are going against what they have said we need to do. Customers complain about having to wait in line to check out... well just wait until it's all self check out (which some people do not like to use), and are already complaining about having to move around pallets of freight during the early morning shopping and/or evening shopping... It makes no sense? The whole reason there was overnight stocking in the first place was so the customers wouldn't have to shop around it! It also majorly cut down on the accidents with customers tripping over pallets.... This "Lead" hourly associate is basically a ZS. We tried that one already, remember? Then the company decided it didn't work so they eliminated the ZS positions. Sigh... I've been with this company for so many long years and loved it, with the exception of the past 6 months or so. Customers are already complaining... I heard that if you take the severance pay you also have to sign a non disclosure document. Why are they keeping it a secret if it's such a good thing? Frankly, if you ask me, this company is following the same steps as KMART. And we all know what happened to them. Oh and one more thing... if Walmart eliminates the huge number of people that they plan to, who's going to be left to shop there??? One doesn't put all these years of blood, sweat and tears (literally) just behind them and move on....

@X1M6jUH-66tbh This fully applied to the store I use to work in. Majority of the people that were at Walmart were related some how. Hell I heard one had the husband, wife, and kids working at the Walmart I use to work. When I started working people asked me who do you know here. I was confused and said no one and then later on they tell me its because majority of the people that get into this Walmart are because they just know someone.

That even gave me a bigger reason to leave. Honestly I had no chance of advancing at that Walmart so I just had to leave I would never move up in position if thats how that Walmart was working.

The problem also is that you have too many family members working at walmart. They are all Dept. Managers. You have to cut that sh– out.

@# 4 I worked for a 24/7 Walmart we still had overnight stockers. I believe we were in total (when I started) like 25 overnight stockers. The last time I heard it was going away was two months ago. What are the chances that will finally change this year? I assume they would keep a very limited amount of people at night to keep the store running which would be a pain in the a– aka the rest going to day time to cap 2. My guess it would be half of what we have right now.

The REAL DEAL

Call happened to day from Market Managers to Store Managers for Phase 1. These changes will roll out in Phases. It will be similar to the Stores meeting goals on the CAMP process.

Store Managers received an email today that outlined the impacts of Phase 1 in their store.

All changes have to do with the elimination of staffing due to changes in technology and store structure. TIME TO TRIM THE FAT!

Changes are STORE SPECIFIC! Not all stores will see all changes until their store is affected in future Phases.

Below are a few of the changes coming.

PHASE 1

Day Stocking (based on volume of your store)

Overnight Asst Managers will have to find a position within 60 days. Depending on volume one may be retained.

Overnight Support Mgrs positions will be gone.

All 3rd shift will be eliminated, CSM, Cashiers, Maintenance, and Stockers.

Positions will move to CAP 1 (4am-1pm) or absorb into the days/evenings if open positions.

Maintenance in tile floor stores will start at 4am. Cuts will be made for stores that went from tile

to concrete and also for stores with the robot floor machines.

Technology Stores

Will lose 2 dept mgrs

E-Commerce - Store specific

If store is under 900 orders/have a pick up tower/no Online Grocery they will eliminate

e-commerce GM, Pick Up will be handled by CAP 1 and Directs.

If store is over 900 orders/have a pick up tower they will reduce staffing.

OGP will still run with staff.

Jewelry ReInvention - Store specific

Stores losing all jewelry showcases, and will transition to only costume jewelry. Will lose staff and

Dept Mgr will be reclassified.

Stores keeping a limited showcase will reduce staffing.

Money Centers - Store specific

Some stores based on volume will be losing their money center. Eliminating staff in this area.

Automotive Care Center

If technicians do not have a drivers license they will have 2 weeks to obtain or be terminated.

Makes sense if you work in TLE you have a drivers license.

START MAKING YOUR PLANS FOR FUTURE PHASES!

DON'T GET CAUGHT SLEEPING!

IT WILL CONTINUE

Let me say this, I gave 22 years to Walmart only to be wiped out because of CO re alignment. Granted I was one of the few that got offered an Assistant position but at a 10% reduction in pay and had to drive one hour and 15 minutes one way to the store they offered. I am so much better not being with that POS COMPANY. Those of you that can, GET OUT NOW.....

To anyone who says this is based on fear mongering, you either have had your head in the sand or are completely oblivious to anything that has happened in recent years. Try being a Co with your head on the block, only to be saved, told you are a future store manager and now not even sure where you want to go with the company. This stuff is real, things are always changing..... good luck asms.....

You know Walmart should be ashamed of themselves because they call themselves for the people and they're not for the people when Sam Walton built this business he built this business on family okay he built it in believing in a dream that he had to help the communities and shame on this Walmart company and every company out here for Walmart shame on them because I don't understand the way they treat people the way they treat their workers the way they enslave people they act as though if we are still in slavery in a cotton field and yet this is the kind of c-ap that they want to pull on us now. letting go of the people I already knew this was coming because this is not the first time Walmart has done this every time they got to give a raise to the associates this is what happens we end up at the back of the store that's ridiculous and they treat the associates like s*** on a daily basis this is one of the worst companies to ever work for Walmart is nothing but a slave trade!!!

I hate WM. 27 years with the company and forced out because of a punk regional. Never had a coaching nothing. Regional id--t madr up things on me and when I turned it over to Ethics for retaliation and abuse five months have passed and not one word. The propaganda on the and CBL’s would have you believe the Statement of Ethics works but it is all smoke and mirrors. I am very serious, if you are starting out with WM and think you have a future do not believe it. Death by WM is slow and painful. I am living proof. Nearing retirement and discarded like the morning trash. This company is full of fraud telling b--tards whose only goal is salvage their 6 and 7 figured salary. It’s coming be ready. MM going to Dallas next week to begin the purge.

Wal-Mart is a joke. I work over night stock and our store would fall apart without overnight stockers. At our store, Cap1 and Cap 2 fails at getting the job done. Mainly because of poor supervision. 3rd shift stocks all departments, including grocery,

dairy and frozen. Department managers are notorious for standing in groups, talking and hiding out so they can avoid work. Our store manager is always on vacation. Cap 2 stocks in groups per aisle, talking and laughing all the while stocking at a snails pace. 1st and 2nd shift can't even get returns done but leaves 20+ carts for 3rd shift to do. They even hide the return carts through out the sales floor. Our store manager doesn't care. Our employees get high on breaks out in the parking, it's overlooked. Associates get fired and rehired... what a joke. The worse is we can't keep new employees because the old associates runs them off with thier bad attitudes and slacking work ethic.

The breakdown occured when mm couldnt do the right thing and terminate underpreforming store mgrs. What they did is give them a co mgr position. Thus the company was overloded with Co positon. Then the favoritism and a-- kissing saved some that shouldnt even been co mgrs. They used the pretext that if you dont want to be a store mgr you shouldnt be a co. All lies they kept their peepes and let go of the honest and not afraid to speak your mind. OBW and cap work...its the rm...mm and str mgrs that fight the system. Everytime one comes in they want change things but do not have the foggiest idea on OBW or ask you about store of the community. Change is good for a company....but it needs to start from the top. #samis turning in his grave

Parts of the are definitely true, I’m no longer with the company but ASM eliminations and no overnights are two things that have been planned for at least 6 months.

There’s a major problem with the company and it comes from the upper leadership. They no longer have a vision because regional and market leadership weren’t being managed which led to severe degradation of the original plan but favoritism kept people in positions they didn’t deserve.

Couple that with a refusal to move on wages and benefits until forced and a relatively strong labor market with changing shopping dynamics that leadership doesn’t get and you can feel the company beginning a slide.

Basically the initial plan was for a lean motivated group of associates in store being led by competent leaders executing a defined plan. The problems arise from the fact that Walmart associates aren’t the same people they were ten years ago when it was harder to get a job.

So you had a plan that required people to be efficient and motivated then handicapped hiring by refusing to move on wages or benefits resulting in the majority of new hires being the leftovers, people who couldn’t get a job anywhere else and don’t give a sh-- about Walmart.

Then you further handicapped stores by hiring ASMs who were barely more competent than the associates. Good ASMs burned out and the rest kept heads down. Morale took a nosedive among salary during the CO purge and certain regionals are exceptionally abrasive and downright abusive.

ASMs get blamed for poor hiring when the applicant pool was already terrible but shows up sometimes and kind of works is better than running a ten person team with two people.

Regionals get on MM and SM for lack of productivity and don’t listen to the problems often times cause by RGMs going off OBW and making up their own programs which gets layered with MM expectations that are beyond OBW but stores are staffed to levels that allow completion of OBW and not above but now they have two or three layers of extra tasks on top of OBW.

If you had benefits and wages to allow competitive hiring you could be pickier and only take/keep the best which would allow OBW to actually work. You would then have the standardization senior leaderships plans relied on.

ASM/SMs would have the time their supposed to in order to provide the level of store experience Greg Foran and Mike Moore expect.

Instead half the team is high or called in, the people that are there are working on whatever sh-- priority an RGM or MM determined was going to get them a promotion. Leaving supervisors and management to try and figured out how to get everything done that running a retail store requires. Obviously corners get cut, mistakes build up, customers lose trust and the whole damn thing falls apart.

From experience the whole OBW and the fresh CAP program worked, really well. The problems piled up when they cut regions and markets because well honestly one of the regionals is in way above his head.

I have so many things to say, but won't because it is what it is and Walmart will do whatever they want, regardless of who it hurts. It's all about the mighty dollar to them and nothing else.
