Drain The Swamp at GE Power

The lay off of 140 employees at GE Power this week could almost be called laughable if it wasn’t for the fact that it primarily affected mostly the bottom level individual contributors and their lives. Case in point whas the cowardice move to lay off all the office administrators ..... that took a lot of courage! People at the working level are disgusted as they look at a top heavy organization filled with executives with nobody reported to them stacked upon executives upon executives what a waste ! Not to mention GE Power’s headquarters organization which is filled with useless roles. When is Larry and his team gonna wake up and realize they’re being snookered by the upper level management at GE Power who are hiding the waste? Please Larry Culp and John Rice have some courage, open your eyes and drain the swamp at GE Power!

@elf...why do you throw Customer Applications in the same group as the others? Those are the workers who actually understand how a CC plant works and interact with customers and sales to make sure we sell stuff that makes a profit.

Have some fun and have a drinking game by peruse the GE Power Org Charts and taking a shot for every executive that has less than 10 direct and extend reports and 2 shots for every executive that has 1 or no reports! Be careful you will have to extend this game out over several nights or you will die form alcohol poising. My suggestion is to start with only one silo at at time in Ge Power's Departments of Redundancy Departments that are full of redundant positions and role no one quite understand other than "watchers":

  • Product Management

  • Project Management

  • Project Leadership

  • Customer Applications

  • Business Operations

  • Human Resources

Aviation has the same issues, even though GE keeps saying it's great.

The levels of middle management at power is still joke. Go into the GAL and look at all the people reporting to equals in seniority. Making cuts to OA’s is joke. It not about reducing a head count it about truly reducing overhead. How many levels of management do you really need to run a business like this? Nothing ever changes at GE.

Culp doesn’t need to wake up. He’s part of the management cabal that fattens the wallets of sr management at the expense of shareholders and little people employees. Why on earth would anyone reorganize and keep the people who wrecked the place like stokes and stazik? Not to mention bringing back rice who rode shotgun while Immelt ran the place into the ground. If rice were a real leader he would have called this out. Rice has no more spine than any of the others.

Culp is just another member of the club. Don’t take all this talk of change with “urgency” seriously. That’s just buying time to deliver more fat paychecks. I’m beginning to think bankruptcy is being considered and the fat cats will take as much as they can until the filing is made.
