DOD, VA Get Low Grades for Helping Vets Make College Choices

"According to Student Veterans of America and their NVEST report, 46 percent of all people using the GI Bill do not finish school, and that 25 percent use their hard earned GI Bill on for-profit colleges. In 2017, CBS News also reported that 40 percent of all GI Bill money goes to for-profit colleges. To make matters worse, some of the worst actors in the subprime college sector (like University of Phoenix, Ashford University, Colorado Tech, and Purdue University Global-Kaplan) get a large amount of TA and GI Bill money."

No. Quite the opposite - the school isn’t allowed to do anything about it. Same with students, especially employees students, who max out their loans when they don’t need them for school. All those funds are considered a right to the student by the government and no school is allowed to influence how they use it.

Camden, aren’t you a higher ed expert? You should know those things ......

@W2S7ttL-4iyq, are those veterans who "sign and dash" passed without regard to their work? If so, isn't that fraud on the part of the school?

Many military students at my campus sign and dash. They do not demonstrate regard for the institution or their own development. Many openly admit they are at school just for the stipend and at a ground campus because it pays a lot more than online does. It use to be just a few vets and current military who behaved in this manner but over the past few years it is epidemic at my campus. Non-vets seem to find the behavior completely unacceptable. I do as well. It is disappointing. I don't see how Phoenix can be blamed for the abuse of the benefit. I have the highest regard for veterans. Many of my close family members are vets including my father who served 30 years and retired as a colonel. I support every benefit they receive and believe they should have more. I am very happy to see my tax dollars support vets who made and make sacrifices that I could not. NEVER FORGET! I do not sanction wasting or abusing the benefit. I teach at other institutions with a vet population. It happens there as well, but not as pronounced as at the Phoenix campus. Phoenix has made many decisions and enacted many policies that reflect poorly on the industry and its own management and is very deserving of incredulity if not outright condemnation; however, exploitation of vets at my campus is definitely not one of them.

@W2S7ttL-1ckb

So let's continue to thank the vets for their service by raping them of their benefits and giving them a pile of sh-- in return, Your equivacation of scam schools to reputable schools seems to be dependent on self serving dependent b---s---.

Camden as of right now the only veterans who are still dumb enough to use their GI bill to buy a fake degree from University of Phoenix are the r----ded ASVAB waivers

@W2S7ttL-1ckb, University of Phoenix's graduation rate is about 17%. The other large subprime colleges are in the same ballpark.

Super creepy obsessive stalking behavior. If anyone knows Camden please have she or he get a mental health check up. We don't want to look back after something happens and say there was a chance to stop it. Seriously.

Tragic but old news, Camden. BTW, it's telling that vets are having a rough time graduating not just from for-profit schools but also from not for-profit. If I'm understanding your percentages correctly, most vets use their GI money to attend not for-profit schools (75% NFP vs 25% FP?), and close to half don't graduate. The low graduation rate doesn't seem to be dependent on the school being NFP or FP.
