Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

To be or not to be

I am with Cisco for over 6 years now. Recently I received an offer from a promising start-up matching my cisco package + equity which is just on paper as they are not a publicly traded company. Their management is experienced, mature and this is not their first time taking an idea from concept to market. Their leadership team has previously turned one venture into a $billion although that took over 10 years. Q is: Shall I stay with Cisco or leave for this start-up with experienced management but reduced benefits (therefore taking indirect pay cut). I have 1000+ unvested RSUs and juicy Cisco benefits. I have consistently received 1.4+ IPF every year yet no promotion and don't see one coming in near future. Due to constant re-orgs and LRs, I am burned out so open to opportunities outside Cisco. Any thoughts, insights, advise would be greatly appreciated.

@Vl136KH-1sbv: With an IPF of 1.4, your manager will likely tell you that you are always welcomed back.

OP here. I think my manager himself is not sure of his existence in Cisco due to impending re-org.

@Vl136KH-1fat: OP here. No other forum allows me to anonymously seek advise from strangers with no strings attached. Call it lack of trust for my Cisco peers (that also explains the poisonous environment I work in).

Burnout is reason enough to move on. (Been there, done that.) It feels amazing to move on to a less toxic work environment.

I agree with @Vl136KH-1koy. An IPF of 1.4, and no whiff of a promotion? Move to greener and more pleasant pastures.

Be a greedy person and stay until you get LRed. You do nothing and get paid for it.

Wise decision to stay back at Cisco. Big company, laid back approach, only maintenance/bug-fixes work as innovation is done through acquisitions. You should also be having good repo with managers, so stay back and enjoy the company by just doing little politics.

go for it. unless you are in some cash rich walled garden inside csco, prospects for growth would be limited - your N*1.4 not getting you promo is a indicator.
