Thread regarding Sears layoffs

So they released Q2 results. Where is the list of store closures?

In almost a decade, I've never seen a quarter go by without a list of stores to close.

How are they going to mitigate that $500 million loss?

And as for layoffs, does anyone have any intel on what's happening (without speculation)? In Hoffman, are the use of any conference rooms blocked off and reserved for HR? Store managers, ASMs or supervisors -- are you sitting in on any "urgent" and "mandated" conference calls that you "must" attend? Are you getting any emails or anything that might look like it is related to a change in store structure or process (which usually means positions will be cut?).

On another note, this Kmart guy (or gal) is something else. Maybe it's a bot. I don't think it's anybody from corporate, because anybody with even just a grain of sense would know that it would be a big waste of time to try to make Kmart (or Sears) sound like something it is not, especially on a layoff site. Maybe it is a 16-year-old kid with some free time on his/her hands, maybe it's a disgruntled or former employee messing with everyone's heads. Here nor there, the moderators really need to do something about this. This site is intended for candid discussions about layoffs. This is not a stock rallying board or a board to troll people.

@1qjb @1ish I wonder what went down if or when this person's local Kmart closed.

"...while this location will be closing, the important thing to remember is that members are still able to shop online at Kmart."

"I DON'T WANT TO SHOP ONLINE! I WANT MY KMART STORE, AND YOU CLOSED IT!"

The Kmart person reminds me of Annie Wilkes from the movie Misery:

"MISERY CHASTAIN CAN NOT BE DEAD!"

Whoever this person is -- they are living in a fantasy world and act as if Kmart has wound back the clock to happier days, say, 1984. It is 2018 now, things are MUCH different and even the financial experts on Wall St. say that things are only going to get worse for Sears Holdings until the last assets have been pillaged, and then it's lights out. Then Kmart (and Sears) will just...slip away.

I think the Kmart fanatic is most likely a genuine customer with mental issues. Like the people that obsess about some celebrity and think they're in love, but he fixated on a dying retailer instead of a celebrity.

If it were a corporate person, I'd like to think they'd have realized from all the negative responses that they needed to change their approach. But people still working at SHC aren't renowned for learning from their mistakes and finding more effective approaches, so I can't be sure. ;-)

@fig Fri afternoon has come and gone, still no new news. https://www.thelayoff.com/t/V9JyGYS claims there will be SHC layoffs next Tuesday.

They're coming. The liquidator in our closing Sears store has already been assigned to 2 stores that will be closing this year that have not been publicly identified. He said there will be more also but due to confidentiality he cannot say which ones. He had a list on his desk that he turned over when I walked in to his temporary office in our store.
