I always held "Mattel" as the # 1 toy company, with many wonderful brands for all ages. Somewhere along the line things changed. Great talented and dedicated employees were not recognized for their continuous dedication to the company they enjoyed working for. Layoffs became an annual event. There was no life at Mattel, ridiculous deadlines for their employees, because the upper ups were so indecisive etc. Who handled the Toy's R Us deals? Where millions owed to Mattel? Was poor negotiating involved? Why is the CFO still employed, why is that the road to recovery turned out to be the road to ruin? To many unanswered questions, and too many laid off employees. Your loss Mattel!

So True!!!
When everything is a priority; nothing is a priority
Wow. Sr Director of Eng’g also resigned in HK....... WTF.
Decades of arrogance and over compensated cry baby management teams. Let's see where these geniuses end up...lol. The $150k+ pay cuts are gonna be a nice reality check for most of these talentless bs artists...
Enjoy those severance checks. You DESERVE them for all the misery/frustration/BS that you endured. Congrats your new job. It's GREAT to be free again!!! :-) Woo Hoooo!!!
Totally agree with @Uy3hrpB-1ozw! I had my worst few years at Mattel during my 25 years in the toy industry. The best thing they did to me was let me go so that I was forced to look for new opportunities. Now I landed a great job with higher pay. Guess what, I'll still be collecting Mattel's severance paychecks biweekly for another couple of months!
I heard CK is out. Anyone able to confirm?
Previous Poster: Your assessment of the situation is spot on. Those reasons there can never be a "turnaround" at Mattel. The mgmt Infrastructure is a mess.
Mattel has layers and layers of diluted accountability. No one makes decisions and obvious incompetence is tolerated. Overpaid non - decision makers. A pointless content team. Too many skus. Worthless planning and factory allocation group. Everyone in each group has their own agenda of self preservation.
Man are you right about not being able to have a life as a Mattel employee. In hindsight, it was the worst, most stressful, and uninspiring years of my life. Big, big regrets for staying as long as I did. Get out now people, do not waste another moment of your precious life in that place!! You don't need that job. There's a whole world of opportunities out here. Come grab one. Ask yourself this: Wouldn't It be amazing to actually look forward to going to work tomorrow? To feel you matter? That your contributions are valued? Forget Mattel...go towards the light ;-)
Incredibly incompetent senior management. The board of directors have failed the share holders.
