Thread regarding Mattel Inc. layoffs

Prediction

Mattel will try to stabilize it’s overhead then prep to sell off brands while they still have some equity. That will likely be the start of the company filing for bankruptcy protection. They will protect Barbie and hot wheels. FP and Mega aren’t quite dollar store prices so they’ll sell for some change. That’s what I predict ynot’s “turn around “ means. There’s no “plan”

Toys are still viable. Mattel has efficiencied itself into obsolescence. It focused only on very specific toy categories that it lost its courage to try and fail in favor of doing more of the same thing. Listened to marketing people who just wanted more dolls because that’s all they could understand. Ultimately not sustainable. That’s what happens to a company that’s supposed to be creative but run by marketing and bean counters instead of a strong creative head. Now all you hear are excuses about costs and factories that can’t do it blah blah blah. Toys is an industry that rewards risk takers. A succession of Mattel management were all too comfy just collecting revenue for the same thing. While everyone else kept their edge in a bid to unseat the king.

Brings us to today. Mattel needs to shrink and eat some humble pie. Truly get back to the attitude of embracing risk and failure. Ditch the naysayers and excuse makers. If Mattel is to survive it will be a very different company from what we knew just a couple of years ago.

@UxJEXMo-1cjn This is simply not true. Numbers don't lie. The toy sector has been growing in sales at around 5% a year for the better part of a decade now.

@UxJEXMo-1jxv, toy belongs to the past, kids don't play with conventional toys anymore, they only play with electronics. Let's face it, it's a dying industry, let's move on and do something else.

I was at the dog park today and I met a girl around 25 years old. After we talked about our dogs she asked me where I worked. I said Mattel, she said "at a motel". Lol she had no idea what Mattel was.

I think the cut off must be between age 35 and 40. Under 40 "Mattel??" over 40 "Oh I remember Mattle".

Mattel forgot how to make really cool toys. Where is the creativity and brilliance in toy making? Where is the next Big toy? Where are the toys the kids can’t live without? Where is the magic and excitement? Mattel needs to start making toys kids want. They can hire all they want at the top, but that’s not going to make killer, must have, desirable toys.

What a bunch of malarkey! Don't you know once you hit rock bottom you always bounce back up, to ever greater heights. Onward!

Apparently the finances are now so bad, there’s little hope for recovery... Sad to see how far things fell...

Hogwash! Why is everyone so negative? This is the biggest effort this company has seen in turning things around. Mattel will not only survive, it will thrive! Its going to get better, trust me.

If your prediction is true, we will see very massive layoffs down the road. It's kinda sad to see a big company falling apart like this...
