All this plant closing talk on here it’s like these id--ts are sitting on the board or something. You want to sit there and doom and gloom go ahead but just know no one knows a damn thing.

@2sym you don't know what GE Renewables sells do you? All wind, no solar. Do a google search on bloomberg energy and you'll see that solar is exploding while wind is basically flat.
Yes! No one knows that we've been SCREWED!!!
No I’m stating no one knows anything that is all I said which is the only fact on this entire thread.
This poster is turning the blind eye and becoming a company blow Hard thinking that GE will pay great wages and pension and healthcare. Ha ha think again 273 is going to become a service plant making bars only which means 300 or less employees needed. Thank your union for screwing us!
@UUuXBDb-2vxy Oh wait yea that must be why ge renewables is doing so amazing with all their sales........ oh wait their not
2gyb...get the facts straight. sales of NEW power equipment is being dominated by solar and wind. Sure gas/coal has the biggest installed base but there are like zero adds of new coal/nuke plants except in India, and gas is taking a back seat. Siemens is selling their F class drawings and tech over to China and Iran, and Doosan is designing their own F class GT. We are in a dying market.
My guess is that it's probably someone who reads.
Who is the id--t that says renewable energy is taking over? Wind and solar don’t even count for ten percent of the energy produced in the us. Solar alone produces 0.5% of the power in the us. So yea a real take over. Read before you post. F---ing t rates
How about the fact that they keep saying there’s 6 places that do what we do. Ge has orders of 60 generators and we are making about half of them........... hmmm they are really spreading that work out to all “six plants” use common sense they are not leaving here.
After reading the responses to this post I’m guessing most of the replies are from t rates and are therefore it literate. The poster is saying everything people is saying is rumor. Which is 100% true. Not one thing was said about this plant being unclosable. A few people have stated they don’t think it’s going to happen. And they are entitiled to their opionion just as you are. Carries the same wheight because they know as much as you do.
No one said their untouchable. It’s unlikley being the only generator manufacturing facility in the Western Hemisphere. At the very least this will be a service shop. And honestly I have enough seniority it won’t matter to me.
The job market in Schenectady is going to be tighter at the end of November when 400+ global foundry workers hit the street. So if you're looking to leave, the sooner the better.
To think you're untouchable because you make generators is naive and mo--nic. If your under the power segment of ge your on borrowed time. Read something other than your bathroom stalls.
No one on here said they would never close this place. Please learn how to read. What was stated was no one on this page knows anything. Opionions are like a--holes everyone has one. And to compare a site making boxes to a site that makes huge generators is kind of stupid.
Salem site tier 1 said the same thing for years, (they would never close this place) guess what.....turn out the lights the gravy is over.
We do know that reneweables are taking over and fewer and fewer turbine spare parts will be needed. It's the dismal tide.
My two cents. GE could say we can get the work done for "x" elsewhere, so if you want to do it fir "x" (read way less) the work stays and if you dont it goes. Isn't that how that section of the contract the first poster refers to work? I think that's what I read about Salem and Fort Edward.
Article xxii is all about plant closings in the contract so you did.
Who said close? Maybe no more mfg., just sservice work or, chance to retain work but with steep concessions.
@UUuXBDb-kou you know how I know your full of it? Because the company wouldn’t close this place. They could fire everyone but a few guys to run waste water. No matter what they do they have to run that. That’s per the Dec. and if they keep let’s say 5 guys the plant isn’t closed. And no one gets benefits. So if your going to bs people at least make it believable.
Yea bud you have all the info. You couldn’t just say plant closing? I’m glad you can read the contract book congrats. . I’m sure some factory guy doesn’t. And anyone who actually was privy to any such info wouldn’t be caught dead posting it on here. So find something better to do. You know like actually work.
I wouldn't bet on that, think Article XXII. Can't say anymore than that.
