Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

qcom creating more PMs than innovators and engineers

These days qcom has become good training ground for learning Program management skills in absence of real engineering work.

I see everyone above sr.staff is doing nothing but creating redundant meetings, meetings for discussing which meetings are needed , follow up meetings, list of AIs which no one follows.

Soon QCOM will be learning center for producing maximum PMPs.

@1nki very good point. I think some SD qct young dir needs to read your post and have a moment of reflection.

PM's at Q are a dime a dozen the truly great ones that were there have been let go and forced out like GG. A PM managing a project for a career (like they do at Q) is more of a meeting planner and social secretary than a PM.

By far the most sensible post I've came across in recent past. Can only wish such people hold critical decision making positions. Often in reality, they're at the receiving end of upper layers' mess.

You can blame the mismanagement of devopment on one guy, JT. He's promoted some real dopes and treats employees like dirt.

You guys should read the book "Peter's Principle" by Laurence J. Peter. It's called "percussive sublimation". Many people are promoted by the one guy, who feels unsafe - to show "look I have so many good guys around me or under me". This is another way to convince the employees "look they are promoted, I can be, as well" - a kind of fake motivation. These kinds of things are a sign of end of a organisation. The guy in the top won't escape. He will be chopped off. The guys who over-promoted won't be able to find jobs with comparable titles in the future. It's the matter of the a.. of the guy who promotes them. I have seen such fellows below 40.. Stay away from such organisations

Any engineers worth their money would know that real product development cycles require tight coupling between system, hardware/software, and testing. It feeds on itself through iterations. I am wondering how they are going to do that across time zone, language and cultural barriers.

The day that a company treats its engineers as expenses instead of assets, marks the beginning of the end of that tech company. The tech field is littered with corpses of those companies. QC will become one of the casualties.

Delivering less than 1/3 of the quality.. more unmonitored workforce for SD QC to try to manage....

Managing by sticking your head in the sand....

So the guys in India will do real engineering work for 5G and beyond, whereas the guys in San Diego have become status collectors.

I have seen many stupidity during my career, but this is beyond stupid. Whoever came up with this should be fired.

Yep spot on. That whole PM thing is JT's creation. He could never manage the development under him so he created the Secret Police to do his job. Development should manage and report their own schedules and plans. The Q PM team is a big waste of money. Thanks Jim.
