Thread regarding Sears layoffs

When unloading trucks why can’t the bay doors be open?

It certainly not because it’s air conditioned!

But seems like opening a bay door wd allow some air in the area!

It’s like a sauna every time we have a truck, unloading that conveyer thing, sorting by division getting in the truck to push more down the line, running back and forth sweating and more sweating

Just even a fan wd be so nice

I’ve even noticed the store air conditioning doesn’t even kick on until precisely the exact time the store opens... use to be 15-20 minutes prior

Our store used to be listed as a high risk store from an LP standpoint due to bad inventory results in electronics and high value apparel....

Dock doors had to be shut at all times except when unloading a truck.....A manager or the Backroom lead had to be on the dock whenever the dock doors were open for any reason...including unloading a truck...

If manager or lead had to leave the dock, the doors would have to be shut and locked including stopping a truck unload until management presence returned to the dock.....It even went as far as tossing trash in the compactor...A manager would have to unlock the bay door for the compactor and then stand there while the trash was dumped.

After a couple of good inventories, our store came off the high risk list and the dock door standards were relaxed again.

Just go out to the floor and write off a couple of box fans. Do you really work there? Air don’t work but fans we got!

Management says it’s a security issue!!

Doesn’t have to be wide open but up about 2 ft would really help

We have no fridge no water cooler no fans..just dead air to work in

The only water source we have is outside the area at the kiosk where customers go to pick up their web orders

Any fans, water coolers and certainly mini fridges may be restricted due to your store energy audit. You might be able to get away with keeping your refrigerated water fountain to where it is keeping the water cold, if you have one installed in your backroom, but that is the discretion of your QMT, DFM and SGM to do so when they devise an energy plan for the store. Otherwise, they will unplug it and the water will be lukewarm.

The bay door might have to be closed for two reasons: 1) safety, since it's quite a drop off the dock if you are not watching your step and 2) preventing theft, since packages could be passed out of the open bay door.

You would just have to state your case to your SGM to see if what concessions could be made, if any. You might try calling 88 Sears as the next step. If enough of you call in to voice your concerns about working in the backroom in warmer weather, they might change things. OSHA is anotuer avenue, probably more effective.

The bay door is allowed to be open and you should have at minimum one fan running. You should also either have a water dispenser cooler (with or without the orderable sports drink mix), cooler full of water bottles, or mini fridge full of water bottles. Who is telling you that you have to close the bay door?
