Considering that we are cutting back in every conceivable (and a few not so conceivable) ways, how come that there are so many job postings available for Sears right now?
I don't mean just a few, simple Google search pops up dozens if not hundreds of them. What's all that about?
IT works advertise normally just a facade, practice by all corporation of shape and size, to show they made an effort to full fill job openings but have no local talents so that they can hire H1-B visa or all those alphabets soup people to do the job. I was brought in for an interview by many companies like that only to be told job already filled by those alphabet soup people.
I think it's denial.
High turnover rate. Over 75% of our new hires since last Christmas have left and another 7 or 8 old timers. Most people only stay until a few weeks after they are done their training when they finally figure out that they will get no hours and that there are no raises
And it doesn't look good to potential applicants when they walk in for the interview and see a store completely void of customers, especially if they are applying for a job with a commission. It also doesn't leave a good impression on them if they have to wait an hour after their scheduled time to interview because there is just one MOD running the place and they are trying to balance 30 different things at once.
@xeu Word has gotten around on how c-appy a job at Sears is. Everybody knows that there is so much pressure on meeting metrics for a job that pays minimum wage or very close to it, just for the chance to work less than 15 hours in a lot of cases. Everybody knows Sears is fizzling out of existence.

It is because usually the people that post that are either the HR Manager or SGM. And let's face it, they don't know anything about the store closings until the last minute. So they have to keep up appearances that it is "Business as usual".
But it is also that there is such a high turn over rate at these places that they will have a lot of openings and I think the working populace has figure out that Sears/Kmart pretty much has no future and that the jobs at those places will be sh-- anyway so even those that are desperate for work won't even apply.
