When I started working for Follett in 2001, I was impressed with the number of Follett associates that had 20, 30, and even 40 years experience...it was one happy family. As a regional, I knew that experience, results, and relationship building with students, faculty, administrators, and business partners was appreciated and rewarded. In 2013, everything began to change and the above qualities in associates no longer mattered, and folks began to get laid-off...it was heartbreaking for me, so I retired in 2015...I am one of the fortunate ones. My advice to current Follett associates is to do all you can to change industries...due to Follett being in a declining industry, the working conditions wil only get worse.
working at follett is working with an expiration date stamped on you. It's stamped in a place that you can't see.
EVERYONE is subject. The race to the bottom is fueled by the carcasses of slaughtered careers. At some point you'll be paid too much. At some point the board will decide you sholdn't have benefits. At some point you'll be told your existence offends the customer and you must go.
If you've worked hard for the company for many years, you can expect to be driven out or fired. No severance is paid. You and your greying hair get to start anew somewhere else.
That is follet value #1.
