Most of you are oblivious to subtlety, but The coffee scandal at Woodside was the canary in the coal mine. That false economy was a clue to the pigheaded management that drove them into the ground. No discoveries. No gas for Pluto. And a defrocked XOM flunkie in charge.

That caught my attention too. I highly recommend you bring up the question of free coffee during the job interview when they ask you if you have any questions for them. I’m sure that HR will appreciate your attention to detail. I think it will go well for you.

@8zzw, If anyone hires on as an engineer anywhere, I think having to buy your own coffee should be the least of your concerns. Christ, I bring my own ground coffee to work and brew it at my own workstation. So much better than the cheap nasty coffee Chevron provides for free at the watering hole.

4lyr, Plenty of people care, Like the people in the same industry that you speak of who make the tires for your cars and bicycles as well as the fuel to power them and charge the batteries. And those who benefit from that industry. The very same one making most of the components in all of your electronics, and batteries for them, I-phones, pads, etc. The fluids used to cool your home in the summer, And many other luxuries, the list is endless. Yes, you guessed it, anyone who uses anything made from hydrocarbons and hydrocarbon derivatives. The list is quite extensive and is much more than just gasoline for the car that you drive everyday, which I'm sure that you do, just speak hypocritically about it!

I hear Woodsides is hiring engineers. Has anyone applied already? And do they have coffee in that office or still bring your own?

No truer words @7kml. Sadly, the enemies of America have infiltrated this country in all areas that influence and corrupt the maleable minds of our young children and adolescents. The media, our schools and Hollywood have done so much harm already that we will need at least 3 eight year terms with a President that thinks, acts and loves the USA as Donald Trump does.

CVX and others should follow the POTUS's lead when it comes to getting rid of PC driven diversity - reverse discrimination is still discrimination. Work place decisions should be based on merit alone.

5itg, strategic push to increase female to male ratio. Firing not hiring. Get that chip off your shoulder, put your emotions aside and do the math lol.

Do Managers/TLs also need to apply for their jobs? If so, some leaders will also be made redundant.

US energy giant Chevron has signalled its commitment to the local market by signing up Canadian giant Brookfield to build it a 29storey headquarters tower in Perth as demand for space in the resources-driven city increases.

Chevron made the surprise announcement that it had struck a non-binding heads of agreement anointing Brookfield as its preferred developer of the long-held Lot 7 at the Elizabeth Quay precinct.

The contest to build its headquarters had been expected to play out over months and real estate experts had speculated that Chevron would hand back the site to the WA government, which could have sold it at a profit.

Chevron Australia managing director Nigel Hearne put the deal down to the successful start and ramp-up of the company's five-train LNG and domestic gas business.

"This agreement signifies our long-term commitment to the Western Australia community and our workforce," he said.

For the past seven years, Chevron's focus in WA has been on developing the Gorgon and Wheatstone LNG projects at a combined cost of $US90 billion.

Now the LNG building works are almost finished, it is prepared to uphold an original commitment to build at Elizabeth Quay.

Chevron will then cut back on staff in Perth after its role as a project builder is over, although it will not say how many jobs will go.

While Chevron will move from Perth's QV1 building, which is owned by Eureka and Investa Property Group, the space it leaves is expected to be quickly filled as demand in the city has dramatically picked up after years of high vacancy rates.

Chevon tapped real estate agency Savills last year to advise on its need for about 40,000sq m of space that it could occupy for up to 25 years.

Chevron has long been expected to build a tower of its own after paying $64 million in 2013 for the Elizabeth Quay site.

It was granted two extensions as the market slumped and last year WA's Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority allowed it to seek a third party to build the tower via a build-to-lease proposal.

Brookfield was seen as best positioned to develop the tower that will span 52,000sq m and be anchored by the US energy group. It is already developing a super-tall complex at the gateway of the $2.6bn Elizabeth Quay that will stand next to the Chevron tower.

Brookfield's $1.1bn world-class mixed-use project is to be built on Elizabeth Quay lots 5 and 6. Lot 5 will have 220 apartments, 15,000sq m of offices, 1300sq m of retail and a five-star hotel, while Lot 6 will have about 35,000sq m of office space over 19 levels and 2000sq m of retail, to be delivered in 2022-23.

Industry sources said Brookfield's offer to build and then potentially own the completed tower had won the day.

Chevron expects to reach a final investment decision on the proposed office building next year and occupy the building in 2023.

Mr Hearne said the company would then consolidate its Perthbased workforce into a state-of the-art office building.

BCG’s corporate mission statement is if you can’t find the solution, there is good money in prolonging the problem. That Chevron paid these numbnutts $30 million is the antithesis of capital stewardship.

Of course BCG is carrying out the review because they know so much about the industry.

It’s the real “Chevron Way”.
