Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Mid in Growth

Is Midcon growing? I am a ten year employee with varied experience. I am thinking about trying to move to Midcon from Downstream if that is possible. Sensible input is appreciated.

Look it up for yourself Isiy. Go to Realtor.com and compare the price per square foot for homes in Midland to the price per sqft in other Texas cities of comparable size. The fracking business has boomed so much that not enough homes are being built to accommodate demand. Apartment rental rates have also gone up for the same reason. Finding a decent hotel room has also gone up in price. If you move there and make the mistake of buying a home in this speculative up market, you will lose home value big time when supply catches up with demand, and lose even more after the fracking business begins to cut back in the years ahead.

I’m with you on that 100%, 5mwb. I don’t want any part of Midland... or Mid-Land for that matter.

@3cum, just to be clear, it’s spelled Midland (the little town in West Texas), not Mid-Land.

OP, the next Upstream PDR cycle is in October for moves. In the October PDR there will be must moves from China, however, currently Mid-Land is having a difficult time getting Chevron employees to move. The reason for that, is the high housing prices and there is nothing to do in Mid-Land. Most Chevron employees are trying to get a rotational job. So, before you decide you want a position in Mid-Land, you need to evaluate housing and location.

Those things may sound worthless to @1pwz, but that’s the difference between him and others who are successful in big company like Chevron. These procedures, tools and requisites are the ways the company chooses to document and promote employees. If it’s too onerous for some of you, then you stand a good chance of not advancing in your career.

OP, you say you are from Downstream. Where from, Refining or Pipeline? With your varied experience over 10 years, I think you have an excellent chance to move into MidCon Production. Of course, you would need to look for the right job that is based on your experience. Identify exactly the list of job titles in MidCon that closely match all or most of your skill set. If any of those are something you would see as an advancement in your career, then discuss them with your supervisor as part of your ePMP and Career Development Plan. Ask your supervisor to introduce you to your PDR (Personnel Development Rep) as soon as possible. You should get to know your PDR and hold scheduled meeting to develop your CDP and for your Rep to begin communicating your interests and fit to his/her counterparts in the MidCon organization. Timing and coordination are key. If you are serious about switching organizations during PDC cycles, start with a conversation with your supervisor and mention your strong interest in advancing your career.
