Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Walmart Changes 2019

Let's list all the changes we expect Walmart to do in 2019. This may be several things:

  • changes due to pilot programs

  • changes due to market changes

  • changes due to restructuring

  • changes due to financial reasons

  • changes due to (fill in the blanks)

I am really curious to see what people expect as it relates to 2019 and what it means for the Walmart worker (first) and everything else.

As a full discernment, I was laid off in the big purge of January 2017. It took me about 4 months to find an equivalent job, I was in IT.

@TJ0pUSa-9litx I fully agree with you here. The time I worked at Walmart feels like slavery. They over push you despite they pay you minimum wage. Thats why they have been pushing away unions. Indeed a class action law suit should be put into place. Your other option is to look for a better job else where. Its not worth working here and expect a future unless you end up with a high position.

the same thing is going to happen to me been there 20 years they lie so much and tell stories I am going to spread the word to not shop there they treat there associates like trash I am writing letters to a lot of people the labor board the equal opportunity commission we need to get a class action law suit going they think they are above the law I am also going to write to the tv stations that news may be they will get the word out. this is not right. and they know it . somebody will get them. write letters to everybody you know then they will tell there friends and so on. I am all so getting the people that need a job do not go there you will be very unhappy. not a career job they dump you after so many years . they should have harassment charges and discrimination charges. that is where I am going next I am going to make my point heard before I go down.

We were told of new LEAD positions coming and the elimination of our current position. As a19 year associate intending to retire from my career at Walmart someday, I have been thru many changes and have applied myself to those with the understanding that it was for the good of the company. I see trouble for Walmart with the denial of myself and others, Like me, to be able to step down and continue with the company we carried pride in working for so long and the lack of respect for the experience and loyalty that we have given to this company for a good portion of our working years. How sad that the Basic beliefs that have been drilled into our heads for years are being ignored in the pursuit of the future. Respect for the individual, service to the customer, strive for excellence and act with integrity. Where is the respect and integrity for the long term, well deserving, experienced associates? Such a SAD state of affairs. So many not being to continue their career at Walmart, losing benefits and income that their lives depend on.

My wife has worked at Walmart for 19 years and was told today her position as csm is being eliminated in January2020 and there is no position for her and to top it off forcing her to work 10hours on thanksgiving to boot. Horrible place to work for because not only affects the employees it also affects the family of these employees. Time to boycott Walmart.

It's a win for the deserving employees.

Walmart would be wise to reconsider all of these changes. One in particular is for them to take 10%-20% of hourly wages, for their own restructure. I smell a class action lawsuit.

Walmart pushed me out the door after almost 20 years. They are a despicable company. All Walmart understands is money. If Walmart screwed you over don't ever spend another dime with them. Tell everyone you know poorly you were treated. My friends and family refuse to shop at Walmart or any of their subsidiaries after what they did to me. I keep spreading the word and will continue to do.

If Wal-Mart wanted to really cut wasted payroll, they should eliminate ALL of the Regional level managers. The Region teams have terrible people skills. They are just the Divisional managers puppets and they truly don't care about any of the store level associates or managers. Their only care is about themselves.

I really like walmart and shop there often. our economy is not great as it is. we dont need more unemployment i dont think its fair to the great employees at the riverdale walmart where i shop the most. i know some of them personally and worry about all of the ones affected and their families. i know one worker in particular who has a wife and daughter who i believe just turned 3. i feel for those who are going to lose their jobs some wont be able to find jobs because they are older and are on regular social security or are disabled. its not fair and i think it will affect walmarts popularity and fewwer people will shop there and dont want it to close because if it. thank you.

Me and seven other of my fellow coworkers were laid off yesterday for “ restructuring “ . I was a coordinator in the transportation department for a DC. Those laid off had between 4 to over 25 years with the company. We all knew that something was coming as we had heard rumors. They rolled out a paperless system that was geared towards the truck drivers to basically put the sole responsibility of their pay into their own hands. As these changes were being implemented me and my fellow coordinators were told to “audit” drivers activity and pay in addition to many other duties that needed to be done. Specifically we were to focus on wait time and mileage. With the amount of work we were doing there was not always enough time in my work day to get what was expected of me done. We would audit 6 drivers a day. We all found errors in the drivers pay. The wait time, mileage and activity were what we found as errors. There was not enough Coordinators to catch all the errors for every driver. This was a huge issue and one that we couldn’t discuss with upper management within corporate . The company is insistent that the computer system was more accurate in its “ optimization “ than us the humans. There were so many issues with drivers having to wait on being dispatched for there next moves due to those in Arkansas being pressured by there bosses to wait on the computer to optimize the next moves in order to prove that this system is flawless and to make the creators and those backing it up in corporate look good not to mention having a computer take over our jobs. It has not been perfect and as a result drivers were left to wait. Which is not how drivers make money. They need to keep moving and flowing not waiting on a computer. As for the systems in the drivers trucks, which is a whole other issue. Before I left we were all receiving many calls from drivers loosing there workflow , and concerns from the drivers as to wether the computer was picking up there activity accurately as they now were responsible for their pay. Drivers were now having to become tech savvy and responsible to constantly monitor the accuracy of their pay. This has created less driving time for the drivers and more fixing and checking. I can guarantee that there has and will be ( especially now) inaccurate paychecks going to some of those drivers. They laid off all coordinators in my office and left the immense work left for two managers and two opts ( two on the weekday and two on weekends) in addition to their own work loads. Unfortunately they will not be able to take on all of that work ( 8 people’s work load) and ultimately they will have to end up hiring again. They wonder why they score low on the employee survey for “ do you trust the company you work for”. That should not be a question, they should already know why we can’t trust them. Unfortunately these changes will reflect poorly in the future for Walmart and they will continue to get a bad reputation when it comes to how well they treat the employees. The employees are in the know for what could help improve there company yet they continue to NOT LISTEN and displace and discard many valuable hard working employees whom have lots of experience and insight as to what might help improve the company and NOT some egotistical, arrogant, money hungry, lack of empathy psychopaths.

I believe Sam Walton is rolling over in his grave to see his company operated by some of the worst non appointed store managers ever. A good leader keeps the moral real and fair, this makes the employees happy and creates good revenue. We all about how much money we can make. Walmart has rules guidelines and protocol. Respect for the individual, no derogatory remarks, I've seen associates present themselves in this way and nothing being done. This creates a hostile environment , you wonder why we have incidents. they are overlooked so if I get a severance package life goes on. Walmart is not like it used to be...

Walmart is forcing it's employees to reapply and pass a new assessment if they don't they are let go. This is happening in Las Cruces NM it started this month, August 2019. Looks like they are trying to weed out the older people. My mom has been working for 20 years at Walmart and is furious about the whole situation. Seems like discrimination to me we will have to look into this to see if anything can be done.

I retired as a legal assistant in a large firm in Austin, tx. I came to work at Walmart as a cap 1 stocker after being retired for two years and bored. I like the job but I am 66 years old and seeing that I am less and less capable of lifting the weight required for my job. What other positions in the company could be a good fit for me?

I was the most recent victim of the corporate downsizing. I was told that the pharmacy couldn't support my hours. My 22 hours a week. I feel like I was hit by a truck. It was done on Wednesday about 1230. I was getting ready to go to lunch when the manager came in an asked to speak to me. As we went to leave the pharmacy he asked if I had all my personal items. I said yes an we proceed to walk to the managers office. There is where he read from a script telling me that the new changes would effect me personally. I was devastated. I could go back into the pharmacy anymore. For nothing. He stated that it would be illegal for me to return inside the pharmacy. I was the only one effected by all this in our pharmacy. He did reassure me that this had nothing to do with my job performance. That I was a hard worker an a joy to work with. But I was fired mid day / mid week. Truly no explanation just you cant come back. He did go to hr before all this an they found me a position in ogp. But still I loved my job in the pharmacy an I still dont fully understand what happened. I was fired but I still have a job. Granted not the job I want but a job.

Most people who quit on bad terms or gets fired do not come back to Wal-Mart to shop. Not only did Wal-Mart lose an employee they lost a customer. Dollar General, Target and Dollar Tree are their competitors.

Do you know why older employees and women are important to retail? Who shops retail? Old lonely people and women. Older employees and women can relate to the customers and the customers will want to come back. Good customers service and conversation can help customers spend more money. Brick and mortar stores are about good customer service otherwise just stay home and shop on line.

TINE FOR A UNION. Long term associates have zero protection and are let go by elimination, changing job titles and many more tricks and deception. UFCW we need you ! Open door is nothing but a PR tool. You have we market managers making $350,000 plus a year while working 35 hours a week and cutting a single mothers hours back because she can't work any time or any day and take we care of her kids. The goveo needs to do a high level investigation on all the tricks the we y use. Don't drink the Kool aid. I was a market team member who did and couldn't stomach the way people we were being treated. I voiced my options and was let go. Is WM good for America or China ?

What is everyone complaining about? Are living on another planet ? Wal-Mart is nothing but smoke and mirrors. I was coached to third by my stupid direct report and was going to be fired because of his enormous ego. It wrecked my health and when I filed an ethics ticket it took four months to complete. All coaching were removed but after 25 years I didn't have a job. It was ironic that as soon as my job protected keave was up and my job filled that the ethics ticket was resolved. Long term associates you better be looking because it's coming !

Walmart is full of lies, the media is only hearing what they want them to know .. all of the issues are not being told. So many under lying issues. They are making themself as a company look good, as if they are for the employees which they are not!! I always heard that Walmart don’t do nothing, for nothing it’s about what they will gain from it . They are the worst company to work for.

I don't see what people are complaining about. Ive been with walmart 15 years and got a $6,000 bonus a few months ago. That's more than great to me. Now if you miss work, you can put your time in and not get penalized. If you're pregnant or your child's school is closed, you don't get penalized for an absence. You get paid extra for perfect attendance. Heck, I'm about to take a 16 week paid maturnity leave. Im pretty happy with them because ive looked around and nothing else competes with that. I make 17.55 an hour to watch you scan and bag your own c-ap. That's what an entry level cop makes in my town. #winning

All associates at our store had to sign a paper telling them how their PTO accrual rates for time work based on years of service has changed. It doesnt effect associates under 6 years of service. Basically long term associates are accruing less PTO. Working more hours to accrue PTO than they were previously. Personnel position at our store ends prior to first day of July. They are not being allowed to apply for positions that require holding it till then. I have been hearing personnel was going away since 2006 so what do you know it lasted longer than everyone thought.

My Walmart is shorthanded sometimes in fact that’s why I’ve been pushing carts, and they’re not hiring any new people to help so when people call In they let us Fry until They have to send people out and then they act like they don’t want to send anybody. That’s not to mention the missed scan opportunities Hey every cashier makes mistakes my problem is is there trying to force people out who have long term employment with Walmart I think if we all walked out on them in every Walmart Walmart ever I guarantee you even they Might change their minds because even though you know that they wouldn’t make any money that way
