Veteran choosing Ashford for Early Childhood Education

I just ran into a young woman from a small city who has chosen Ashford University for early childhood education. She says she wasn't recruited by Ashford and said it was the best school for her to go to and that the GI Bill would pay for her schooling.

There is a community college and a Bible college in her town and a major university about 30 miles away.

The woman added that she was hoping to get her masters through Ashford, which seemed pretty bold since she had just started an undergraduate program this month.

Do you think Ashford really is her best bet?

What kind of career are they pursuing? Sounds like they were probably referred to Ashford through a friend that is also attending. Besides the university pushing referrals hardcore, military division is HUGE on this. Basically once they get one, they paint this picture of "with us, everything is covered without costing you a cent, one class at a time, super easy for transitioning military, military friendly, blah blah blah." What these students fail to realize is they can go anywhere else (community college/state universities) and their benefits cover the same stuff!

@SyWbzbn-5rbb, I directed the new student to this:

"An online degree from Ashford University does not lead to immediate teacher licensure in any state. If you want to become a classroom teacher, contact your state's education authorities prior to enrolling at Ashford to determine what state-specific requirements you must complete before obtaining your teacher's license. Ashford graduates will be subject to additional requirements on a state-by-state basis that will include one or more of the following: student teaching or practicum experience, additional coursework, additional testing, or, if the state requires a specific type of degree to seek alternative certification, earning an additional degree. None of Ashford's online education programs are CAEP*, TEAC or NCATE accredited, which is a requirement for certification in some states."

Then she said: "They did not recruit me. Ashford is the best school for me. It works with the career I am pursuing. I recieve all books and tech fees for free and my VA benefits cover the rest. I intend to pursue a Master's Degree with them as well. I am also aware of the state requirements. Thank you for the heads up, however."

Sounds like her goal with that degree would be to become a teacher. Ashford university does not grant any sort of credentials or licensure to become a teacher in ANY state. Run! Run far and fast!
