Thread regarding Mattel Inc. layoffs

MGO $31million in 2017

Nice comp for putting a company near bankruptcy. She is totally incompetent for this company and role. C’mon Board take action for once.

Hail to the Wonder Woman MGO! Girl Power! When is the PR machine going to kick in? Biggest disaster and joke in the world of business. I am shocked she is employable.

More than double Goldner’s total comp, more than double Tim Cook’s total comp. Pure insanity.

There is also the "combat" effect for investors as a result of your CEO on training wheels. Continued missed expectations and little ability to grow the topline. Maybe you want to PR that result.

"the PR will be incredible! - she should be kept for this reason alone"

You must be joking.

Reducing Executive compensation need to be a part the $650 million savings proposed. Combat pay, give the people that do the actual Work and share holders a break. CEO’s are responsible for the performance of their company and paid way too much. This is fact in Mattel’s situation. How about closing the 15 th floor in ES? That would help the most!

When MGO turns things around, and she will, the fact that she is a women will matter greatly and in the most positive way. As a tech savvy savior at the helm of the Barbie brand, the PR will be incredible! This is a cornerstone to the needed Barbie reboot and she should be kept for this reason alone, amongst others.

I have a feeling that is her compensation for taking the heat on all the difficult cost cutting decisions that will be implemented to get to that $650 million in cuts. Combat pay, especially with the announcement today.

This is so depressing because we are all trying so hard to make things work for the company. And everyone who gets compensated so much more than myself or my team are actually either slowing us down or being indecisive. I gotta get outta this place.

At a time when we’re being grilled so hard on our budgets just to keep projects moving, this really stings. With that kind of money, she could walk away now (probably collecting more in the process), and never work another day in her life. And you want US to step up for the company???

The person who tried to turn this into a gender discussion is really way off...this chain has nothing to so with that...it screams unearned excessive comp for no results...and yes, it does happen a lot, but this is a Mattel site not a CEO comp site.

Mattel had plenty of time to find the right CEO and most posters appear to feel they chose the wrong PERSON.

It's not a man or woman it's a CEO thing. I just feel so stupid, when I worked in City of Industries, we cut back on our hours and didn't care about raises or bonuses we just didn't want anyone to get laid off, lol, All the little things were so important to save the company money. I feel like such a looser.

How can anyone think that the kind of payout is justified compared to the company numbers?

It’s not about being a woman. It’s about Mattel and it’s belief that someone with no experience about physical product can turn a hard goods company around with a lot of pie in the sky promises to a board that is just about as clueless about their own candidate. Ouroboros. Mattel needs to die to be born again.

It’s not even about whether she is a man or a woman. It’s about the upside down triangle that is Mattel’s corporate structure that no one above VPs acknowledges because they are all complicit.

And they all act as if no one knows. Well it’s all out now. I would encourage people who know to publish how much each position gets above directors and how much bonuses they get to come in under annual budgets. Which means cutting their own workers to make the numbers.

Is it just me, or does it seem like this entire thread is just one bitter misogynist Mattel laid off 2 years ago posting over and over again? CEO pay in insane. But it always has been. At Mattel and elsewhere. If other CEOs are making 40 times my salary, SHE sure as f#%@ should be also.

Unfortunately, at this point, I don't think here will be a long game for Mattel. Unless the few remaining toy makers can stage some kind of coup, it's pretty much over. The future is a leveraged buyout, chapter 11, and the brands sold off to the highest bidder.

When the cash crunch puts you on the verge of bankruptcy you have to score points now. Stealing $31m and not performing is not culture shaping nor building a platform for future success.

Shareholders have been lied to and misinformed. The facts about the true state of the company are being hidden.

When you don't know how to win you explain it off by telling all we are playing the long game. The sorry state of the company needs to be resolved now. Either sell or bring in a CEO who knows product, knows entertainment and can deliver on the short term AND plant the seeds for the future. Otherwise game over.

Isn't your exiting Chairman resp. for this mess? Wasn't he CEO for 3 years after ousting the former CEO?

Isn't he the one who hired the new CEO and signed off on the comp package, living situation, along with the BOD? Wasn't he on the BOD for 20 years?!!! Do you think he cares about the company as he trots off to a new chairmanship? Why doesn't anyone seem to hold him accountable too? You can only hope the new Chairman is quick study.

Share holders see everything short term. MGO along with her strategic guidance and internal culture changes is a longer term game. Personally, I’m happy where we are headed, but I understand that some cannot appreciate the bigger picture at this point.

It shows we have leaders without values. Their sole purpose is to enhance their obscene wealth by laying off workers and filling their wallet while they sink the ship. The only WONDER they have have is how far can they go to steal the more money from Mattel and shareholders for their benefit.

She is here to stay while Mattel continues to sink. More hard working employees will get let go in coming waves of lay-offs and guess what? She will make even more in 2018. Don't like it? Too bad!

This thread is the tipping point!

Enough is enough! We employees at Mattel are done and tired of the BS that has been served our way by RD and now M-Go! It’s absurd. M-Go do you have a soul? How could you just let so many people go knowing that you earned an obscene amount of money this past year. Do us all a favor, at our next town hall, please explain why exactly you deserved to get paid $30M? You owe it to us and mostly you owe it to the employees who recently lost their jobs!

It’s not too smart to hire an ad sales manager to transform a fast declining toy maker. I can’t believe how ignorant she is to sell to Hasbro. The longer she waits the more pain ahead for shareholders.

This MGO contract is criminal. The number of people laid off to pay her is sickening. There needs to be litigation to charge the Board with negligence for allowing this debacle. End it now. Pay the severance. Find a replacement with someone who knows the business, shows the commitment to live in the area and is inclined to act rather than over analyze.

Why make that hire indeed? How could a LT board member b/c CEO then Chairman doing so much damage to a once great company in the process? And, after making a very expensive CEO hire who appears unqualified for the job while the stock continues to suffer is rewarded with the chairmanship of another major corporation. How is this possible?

This is a company that creates its own problems. Why make a hire with her background. And then pay $30 million for this pos. And likely another $30 m in severance. From what I see below she didn’t even move to LA. Now that’s commitment. She had no plan to stay. What did they expect?

She and upper management are the tip of the iceberg. Literally supported underneath the water line by people working at a fraction of their wages. They celebrate their status while the company burns. It’s sickening. And the conversations at the ground floor are so surreal that it’s obvious that execs are all just trying to justify their existence.

Their high bonuses, guarantees, stocks, free special health care, car allowances, upgraded travel, living allowances and it just goes on. While none of them have ANY accountability. When you look at your SVPs, VPs, GMs in these meetings how can you even fathom that they have any empathy towards any of you while they go back to their Palos Verdes estates to sip wine and talk about their renovations. Look at them and see if you can detect any sign of their humanity that has not been paid for. While they make inane comments about another useless deck that’s to be presented to another level above them.
