Thread regarding CGG Veritas layoffs

Let's make CGG great again

Ask not what CGG can do for you - ask what you can do for CGG.

I remember in the Veritas days, the current EAME manager (before he climbed the post-merger greasy pole from Massy) came over to the Crawley office to extol the virtues of the Veritas Houston business model, in a town hall meeting.

Except Crawley didn't have 100 Chinese PhD's willing to work 14-hours days processing GOM salt data through RTM and selling it for a fortune. So it went down like a lead balloon with management downwards in that town hall. 10+ years later and many of those managers are gone, the shoe is on the other foot, and the current managers are presumably having to toe the company line if that is the new business model.

Even though it was CGG who took over Veritas , and despite all protestations Veritas wasn't doing that well, it seems that it is all ex-Veritas people in charge now , and they don't have a clue.

CGG was beurocratic but at least they were financially in control and knew were all the money was being made and lost.

Veritas just had a vague idea that they weren't losing money so that's ok , no real idea of what worked well and what didn't.

So now Crawley is trying to follow what Houston does ( ex Veritas) except Houston works to a totally different business model to the multi client Crawley model, because as usual all the 'managers' are in Houston.

CGG Redhill was always lean with just a handful of people looking after literally thousands of systems and a complex configuration, a lot more complex than Houston or Crawley . Now all the ex-Veritas IT people are in Redhill cos there ain't any more real IT in Crawley, and they're in charge but have little to do except play table tennis , sit in the cafe and go to the gym, so expect Redhill to go downhill too.

Geoscientists. One must anticipate opportunities, channels, 'gloryholes' in such a downturn. Thrust yourselves inside and unburden yourselves of all this corporate stress & tension. Unload. Boy, you can be sure that a willing recipent will gladly take your finest into his belly.

QUEERTY, my dear QWEERTY ask not what CGG can do for CGG but what you can do for you, and CGG for you, you for CGG. CGG for me, CGG for thee. We all need a little CGG in this cruel world to fill our pink portals. I thank the NEOS-nearly acquisition of Delph. Fabien for the free, naughty buggar that he is, for he who recognises PROFIT for the sake of VANITY isn't EVERYTHING one has to shaft up ones pink portal.

Combine neos ion and cgg. That will make us great again and stop the layoffs. Plus, it’s fun to combine all the letters in the various company’s names. I submit

Maybe as @SuRcCBg-5nyq says "For the others in this chat who cannot be positive and offer help, you are part of the problem."

What is worse than a troll ??

I did not say CGG was great, merely that it could be.

Try reading before posting your opinions.

@SuRcCBg-5nyq

Thank you for very well written and insightful post. Your redundancy is a true loss to the company.

Yes QWEERTY

This site is about Layoffs & people who are worried about losing their jobs. You come on here & write about how great the company is, I think you must be some sort of troll (or worse).

Maybe as @SuRcCBg-5nyq this is the wrong site for these type of opinions?

Whilst I maybe one of the redundant I agree with Queerty on the comment people in non managerial positions should be able to make a difference, I punched above my weight and made many valuable contributions and every detail that improved the quality of my work or those around me improved the service quality we could provide our clients.

Queerty, when trying a rallying call, you must have momentum and a team of supporters who are strongly proactive to your cause. If you dont have these, look for the places where you can make a difference, identify and properly complete quick wins where you can gain respect amongst your peers and managers. This web chat page is not the place.

It can take years to get to where you need to be to be given a position where you can make a difference. In getting there you will figure which managers to rally round and which are a waste of your time. And when you do get there and make the difference some people in your team will just be difficult, moan and not join in. That is when you realise who is genuinely interested in their work and doing their best for the company and who are the deadweights. Sadly, you will find there is nothing managerial you can do with dead weights. But those who like what you do will support you across the board.

For the others in this chat who cannot be positive and offer help, you are part of the problem.

TO ALL MY DETRACTORS (and TREVOR MACDONALDS MENAGERIE)

I am not HR or management

I am not a troll

I am not on drugs (legal or otherwise)

I am however a member of a team of 36 where I am struggling to understand the attitude of the Team Leaders and my colleagues.

Clearly many of them are under-performers, most can only just make double figures in their Annual Performance and some do not even achieve that !

Yes there are things beyond our control:

Applications/Modules/Software riddled with bugs (Houston you have a problem) - Can you fix it.

However I do believe that even those of us who are not in a managerial or leadership position can make a difference - hence my rallying call taken from a supposedly famous JFK speech.

What, so none of you have heard that famous line from the JFK speech that QWEERTY was ironically ascribing to CGG? QWEERTY, I think your humour might be lost on this miserable lot.

Who on earth posted this why should people ask what they can do for CGG after the way staff have been treated

This has either come from Management / HR or someone on drugs

Split off the Veritas companies and rebuild. Let CGG sink into the Bay of Biscay.

Unfortunately Dave Robson has just died - he knew how to run a company.

Interesting attitude for a service company. Might be better to think about what you can do for your clients - assuming you still have any at this point...
