Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

How's it going?

So, a couple months into this , how is everyone getting along? Those of us displaced, has anyone gotten anything new going yet?

@SVgCN0q-2zuk - did Walmart try and fight your unemployment due to severance pay?

Things are going wonderful. I'm a full time stay-at-home Mom now. I love it. My son loves it. My husband loves it. We'll actually have more disposable income now. Plus, I'm doing something I love, instead of something they made me eventually hate.

As the person who is happier at the new company although an hourly said below -- when looking for a job some of the companies that you feel are an all but guaranteed offer, don't even call you back and some companies where you think it's a stretch offer you a job. So it can pay off to stick your neck out applying. I recently received a thanks but no thanks email after interviewing with a call center that desperately recruits in my area but I was offered a job doing office work making $6/hour more than the call center offered. Job is ok. I get to sit down.

@4bmt, why are you on a Walmart layoff site arguing about what people who have been laid off choose to do with their life? Worry about yourself and get a life. No one wants to hear your negativity.

To the troll who keeps trying upset people: You clearly have no idea what you're talking about re nursing. I'll not even dignify you by easily correcting your ignorance.

I'll simply wish a slow, hideously painful cancer death upon you, at a time when the world runs fresh out of morphine. :)

I am a bsn, msn. And I can say nobody wants asns in any capacity other than bedside care and many states are starting legislation to require AT LEAST BSN in clinical settings. So as I say, overpaid lvn. Also w/o the BSN you cannot ever advance to benner level 4 or 5 which means you are proficient to expert in nursing so that you may do other tasks than just bedside care. You will never be in a supervisory role as an ask. The real nurses don't care for asns because they are just not as proficient. But hey, good luck at phoenix university.

@3fqc Why so antagonistic? I think you are confused and jealous, very sad indeed! Your attitude though is typical of people stuck at Walmart and Sam's Club who like to see everyone around them held down.

Very definitely there are many 2 year Associate programs to obtain RN licensure. Are you confusing this with an RN who receives their four year BSN (Bachelor's of Science in Nursing)? BTW, an RN with an associate's degree entry level position averages over $25/hr (see below). I'd say that is a huge improvement over dead end retail jobs! People should celebrate anyone who rises up to get out of low skilled, low paying retail jobs for in demand positions in health care that offer a real career.

Fact: Entry level salaries for nurses with an ADN (Associate's Degree Nursing) average $53,000 annually. The average Associates Degree in Nursing Salary for all nurses with an ADN is $73,000. Nurses with a BSN degree only earn slightly more with an average salary of $75,000.

Lol you are not an RN with an associates degree. That would be an LVN but good for you. Only 2 more years of college and you'll be making more than 13 dollars an hour.

I got a lead with a recruiter for another national retailer... three interviews later I had an offer letter for 5% more than I was making as a complex co. Great benefits including a ton of vacation. And HOLY Sh-- the working conditions are so much better.

But I will say up until then I had a very rough time with not getting responses or interest when I applied. And the vast majority of my peers in this market are still experiencing the same thing. The job market is not good. I count myself as extremely lucky and blessed.

This has been a great change for me overall, I just wish everyone impacted could say the same.

God is good! All the time!!

I was able to persue my real passion, the one I'd left behind long ago as I got lost in the quagmire that is Walmart---I'm enrolled in a registered nursing program, fast track, 2 yr associates.

As stressed as I was at losing my long term WM job, I now see God had a greater vision for me. :)

I’m in a really good place. I’m staying home. Not looking for a job at all. I’m doing the minimum for unemployment. I was the secondary paycheck for our household and my husband and I discussed it at length. He strongly suggest I rest for at least a year. He is so happy to have me home. To be able to see my grandchildren to go see my Mom abs to be able to sleep in WOW... I must say I don’t know if I can do it for a year though ...

Took an hourly management position at another big box retailer close to home a little over two months ago. Turned down an interview with the same company for a salaried position at a store about 30-40 minutes away. Frankly, I had a good vibe from the management team at the store I took the position with and with the overtime I'm getting and the fact that the commute is only a couple of miles I figure it wasn't all that much of a difference between the two positions. With regards to how it compares to WM, overall it's probably going to be a good %15 cut; but I'm working less hours and saving 1-2 hours per day on my commute; not to mention I not only don't hate my job - I actually like it.

I do like things enough that I probably will try and move back into salary at some point; but there's no rush at this point. I feel better, home life is better, and so on. So much different than the WM culture i was used to.

The one thing that surprised me was who did/didn't call me back. Places that I thought would be at least definite interviews never called; and ones that I thought were a stretch at best did call. The other thing was that once one offer came in, multiple ones did; but up until that first one - it was sort of depressing

I know multiple peers of mine have decided to leave retail - the insurance industry seems to be a common theme for them - and frankly I considered it; but for now I'm happy with what I'm doing.

Not good. I've had some interviews with mostly no follow up, but a couple of promising things. The worst was 3 interviews in with Kroger. Would have been 30 % less but I was game for it. They all but made an offer, then bailed. I'm overextended on my house and the interest is killing me, don't know what's gonna happen.
