Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Sad part is that it's not skills based..

Just got to know about a 3 people in MST. All were hands on engineers. Team was not expecting those specific people...but looks like there is some influence on who you are networked with...

@qwj, it's @oni here, for the sole purpose of:

Have you experienced dot.com crisis? Have you seen 2008-2009 subprime mortgage crisis? How old are you? Have you experienced layoffs before? Were people fired in your circle?

MY 2nd point is that HR is trained very well to evaluate employees knowingly badly. This is a sign before a huge layoff. They get the orders from top, which is that HR should fire as much as they can, to achieve their KPIs. The 1st thing they do, they analyze you by analysing your emails in the background, by your comments in the background to find out how emotinal you are. If you are emotional, you can be manipulated by giving bad marks knowlingly.

In that way they try to kick as much as they can.

Afterwards real mass layoff comes.

Yes, because those who made the decisions have no idea of what each one does (or can do). They are not paid for this. Are they?

Complete BS @oni. If you take out volunteers, it's definitely going to be performance-based. Sure, there might be some exceptions, but it's all about cost/benefit. The more you cost, the higher the bar is for performance.

If cost reduction by layoff is the target of the company then they don't care about your qualifications. No matter how many zillions of years you have worked overtime, no matter how perfect you are, if your salary is above the median for target cost cut, then you are fired.

In such phases qualification, performance don't play a role.

Most of the useless people would be retained

This is sounding doom for qualcomm.
