Thread regarding Schlumberger Ltd. layoffs

Amazing conf call from Paal today

during his address to SLB managers, our Great Leader showed us his unability to face criticism, let alone to go through some kind of self criticism exercise. In a nutshell: if we underperformed last year, nothing to do with his own choices, it is all because of the 'non-winning-attitude' of some of us.

Visibly exasperated with the poor results from Engage to Excel, his conclusion is simple: 'the tolerance with non engaged employees is officially over'. Gret program...

Frankly I had the impression of watching a dictator addressing his people rather than a CEO addressing his employees...

He clearly wants a company where there is only one vision his (& it must be the best since he is paid the most $18M) and everyone else executes the vision.

If we dont win against HAL (ie he fails his targets) then it is down to the employees not his vision.

It was more like a dictator about to be deposed, like Ceausescu. Clearly not happy about his own performance and having to debase himself by talking to the minions.

The minions have the temerity of expressing opinions that are not always 100% aligned with the Party line. This will not be tolerated! It stops TODAY! Only the Dear Leader has the answers, the minions' job is to obey without questioning. Or else...

When this guys who take afternoon nap and politically connected people are gone then I would say transformation and paal are working, untill then this is all BS.

Paal probably knows the only result of transformation was firing quiet working people and keeping strong one. Not company has cancer. Only a good leader can save slb from it's misery.

Simple

The shareholders are more important than the clients

The client is more important that the employee

The SLB Company is his and it is more important than the employees.....

So stop complaining about anything i say or do as you are not important just leave even though you maybe be right only he is in control.

Well correction you do not own SLB, we do the shareholders and employees - remember we are the most important people in the organization Treat your employees right (that means listening and being open) and they will treat the clients and the company well.

I love it when slb middle management try to be technical or professional. It's like seeing a monkey on roller skates -- it means nothing to them, but it's so adorable for us.

You can't transform chicken s#@& into chicken salad. If you don't understand to control your operations you can only react through financials. Best run company in the world?! That should tell you.

Fortune named Enron "America's Most Innovative Company" for six consecutive years.

Look how they done the redundancies in the last four years. Pathetic by leaving most everything up to corruption and neppotism. No structure of any kind rolled out. Transformation will fix it. Terminating an engineer with 15 years of deliverables and giving a retention bonus to a brown noser protecting another special ed case with 20 years of taking credit of others because he checks buttons and writes emails to himself. Worst part is that he never even remotely understood that he is the useless link thinking he's such a winner.

Soviet Union collapsed in 1991. Paal is just 30 years late.

His dream was to lead the best run company in the world. He ends up being the worst CEO slb ever had.

He wanted to transform this company, but his very conception of management is firmly stuck in the 20th century.

Sad times.

Paal Jong Un... Life in slb is just like communist North Korea. We have no problems! Complete surveillance and ratting out... Questions? Purge!

Now, everyone happy and engaged in lifting the blue flag reflected in the voluntary and anonymous survey with 100% participation and excellent results.

Next: company anthem coming to your local hub for you to download into your private phone as ringtone, which actually is malware spying on you. Pssst, don't tell!

How could you blame your troops when your politic and strategy is a disaster... SLB don't respect any more workers.... don't respect labour law..long hours... no staff...don't pay overtime....and you want workers happy to work ...pffffffffff what shame to get this type of message :(

you don’t need engage to excel to figure out what is going on. His team, his group presidents and VPs should be his arguing back team. Give real and honest feedback. But all those whom he chose are far from it. They walk around trying to shove it down our throats. And fire any FSM or ops manager who talks back. And all these titles they create for themselves. Hemisphere president!!!!!! Firing a group president who talks back. Promoting new presidents who just agree but do they care?! They get promoted and get raises no matter how bad things are. So many scandals under the carpet.

All these money-s---ing executives should be "engaged" first. Why did they get a million dollar raise a year during this severe downturn? If they even had a notion of saving the company and showed true leadership, employees would be engaged by themselves, and the stupid survey wouldn't be needed.

It needed to be said. Too many old its 'not like it was before' overpaid uninspiring managers around, finding excuses not to adapt to the world as it is now. The money papered over some wide cracks, the cash has gone and the spineless stand there and b--ch about falling into their own hole.

I liked what he had to say.

Really watch this amazing acting

and so like the managers I have known in SLB - well at least one I clearly remember talking to me like this once sounds so much like a culture that is embedded in SLB.

PK is paid several humdred times the median earnings of his staff and he has no clue and cares even less about them. So detached, he could be on a different planet. All he knows how to do is dictate without bothering to understand enough of the issues to form a sound judgement. Everything he has touched in the company has turned out to be a disaster.

For the full year, Schlumberger reported a net loss of $1.51 billion, down from $1.69 billion in 2016. Revenue rose 9.5 percent to $30.44 billion. No wonder he is pissed off !!!! all of his predictions over the last few years that things can only get better are completely wrong and like a good SLB manager all he can do his find some one else to take the blame. I can imagine a dictator in 1945 in Berlin in fact in a bunker in Berlin who rants and raves on and on blaming all around him for the impending doom. But Paal does remain please do tell was the attitude as this clip

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Tmufo02wA0

Hitler makes Goering cry- The Death of Adolf Hitler 1973

Blame all those around you seems like the style of SLB !!!!!!!

PK and greedy minions got pay raise every year while over 50,000 employees and their families suffered from layoffs. Engaged to excel? Excel on what? Stealing money?

People are still scared of layoffs, so unless there is some sense of job security then people wont be engaged. People will still do their jobs, but engagement scores are going to be low.

It was all stick and no carrot, like saying "The beatings will continue until morale improves". The guy has no idea about how to motivate his staff.

Totally agree with you.

I see people in this floor who come to office maybe twice a week, they say they are with clients meeting, they have not made a single support or client visit for past two years, no need to mention when they show up, they take a nap behind desk and no one can say a damn thing, even the manager.

I started to think I am working in a gangsters land!

@Rw3jNzq-eve:

Problem is, most of the mafia-connected people in Slb probably declared themselves actively engaged.

They most likely already knew that the results of the survey were not really anonymous in the first place. And it's not like they are not used to lie all the time either.

The engage to excel survey is pure corporate BS. Even if PK had recognized the criticism, the questions asked are so generic they wouldn't even give him the slightest clue at where to start.

So with this explanation most of the people on floor here should go shortly.

All good ones got laid off a year ago.

I am resigning soon anyways, f--- this sh--ty as hole people here.

Good Imo, he has to fire mafia sleeping behind desk old expensive people.

I believe in paal's style.

Company with this size must be more productive that what it is now.

Majority of current people here are just there because of their connection with managers.
